We were delighted to welcome the Social Care, Mental Wellbeing & Sport Minister Maree Todd MSP, on Wednesday as she met with staff and participants of our Steady Steps programme. She along with colleagues from the Scottish Government and sportscotland, participated in the class aimed at improving strength, balance and mobility through physical activity. Falls represent one of the most costly yet preventable challenges impacting the health and social care system, significantly affecting people's physical and mental health. It was a pleasure to see and share the positive impact that Steady Steps (and Edinburgh Leisure) is having on the lives of its participants.

One third of adults over 65 in Edinburgh will likely have a fall within the year, rising to 50% for adults over 80. Physical activity can make a difference. Our Steady Steps programme - for people who have had a fall or are at risk of falling - helps older adults improve their strength, balance and flexibility to reduce falls and regain confidence. We also accept referrals from GP’s, social workers, support workers and other professionals.
