Policy Center's State of DC Schools report released today highlights the strong system health (growing enrollment, educator and leader retention) and modest progress on outcomes and attendance we're seeing in DC while noting the work that still lies ahead. A new study from Harvard’s Center for Education Policy Research highlights Washington, DC, as a bright spot on NAEP— showcasing the impact of strategic investments in high-impact tutoring, structured literacy training, and evidence-based curricula. From expanding the DC Reading Clinic to investing $40 million in high-impact tutoring, DCPS and OSSE have led the charge in accelerating literacy gains for students. Ed Forward DC has supported multiple cohorts of DC education leaders to participate in the Greenhouse E3 Fellowship program, which trains aspiring and new public school leaders. With the goal of creating a well-prepared pipeline of diverse executive leaders for DC, as well as increasing leader retention, fellows learn how to set a clear direction, lead with a strong vision, drive results, and manage the complexities of the public charter school landscape.
