“The utility wanted to diversify their workforce, and they’d ask me, ‘How do we get more women to apply?’ My answer was, ‘Let them know they can!’ Those types of jobs can seem physically intimidating, but there’s no reason women can’t do them.” What better sentiment to kick off our #WomensHistoryMonth series? Nicole Lantau, EDF Renewables Electrical Commissioning Manager of Distribution-Scale Power, knows she’s a bit of a “poster child” for women in the energy industry. But for good reason: Nicole, who has worked in utility, line, and construction work since she graduated from college, is a knowledgeable resource for project engineers and site managers alike within EDF Renewables’ Distribution-Scale Power business line, serving as a team player to her colleagues and an educator for newer managers. https://lnkd.in/ggdYBDqj #WomensHistoryMonth #WomeninLeadership #IAMEDFRenewables

Bravo, New York Power Authority! The utility recently approved its first-ever strategic plan for expanding renewable energy resources across the state — an endeavor EDF Renewables is pleased to support. The 177 MW Morris Ridge Solar Project, which we developed, became operational in December 2024 and is New York's first utility-scale project, generating enough power for 47,000 New York homes. “This plan not only addresses our commitment to sustainability, but also underscores our dedication to creating a resilient clean energy workforce, providing meaningful careers and opportunities in the growing field of renewable energy,” noted NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll. Thanks for setting a great example, New York. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gS4dJt5B

We are excited to contribute clean energy to meet the growing power demand by data centers. EDF Renewables and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) entered a PPA with Soluna Holdings, Inc. to supply 166 MW from the Las Majadas wind project, which will support operations at Soluna’s co-located data center, Project Kati. With the AI boom driving global demand, electricity consumption from data centers is expected to reach 1,000 TWh in the coming years. Renewable energy is emerging as a key player in meeting these needs while helping suppliers meet net-zero targets. This innovative PPA structure provides a flexible solution to the challenges of transmission constraints and curtailment. Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/ehftZE4u

Lauren Carlsson’s pathway to a career in the energy industry has been anything but straightforward. The Miami native first pursued a degree in engineering and computer science before pivoting into a very different field: hospitality. With her combined knowledge of hotel management and information technology, Lauren landed a role at hospitality-focused Norwegian software company, where she grew her software design and development skills. When a former colleague reached out to Lauren with an opportunity in the energy industry, she was at a point in her career where she felt uninspired. To her, the move into renewables was just what she needed. She says of the job transition, “To know that I was helping to make the world a better place was something I couldn’t pass up!” Read about our Senior Director, Enterprise Digital Strategy & Transformation here: https://lnkd.in/gVSqCG5h

"Not only were there no blackouts during that time, thanks in part to backup battery power, but at their peak the renewables provided up to 162 percent of the grid’s needs — adding extra electricity California could export to neighboring states or use to fill batteries."
