For some Friday-inspired fun, imagine for a moment: It’s your job to float near the Gulf of Mexico and soak up the sun… Sounds great, right? That’s just what our Big Bend Floating Photovoltaic Project is doing! The 1.3 MW shore-based solar array became operational in 2023 and provides clean energy to Apollo Beach, FL and surrounding areas!

Our Unitil solar project in Fitchburg, MA is an excellent example of how brownfields, specifically sites previously utilized for more traditional forms of energy generation, can be converted or co-exist with solar energy. This 1 MW (ac)/1.3 MW (dc) array is located on 20 acres of vacant land which was previously home to a coal, and later, a natural gas power plant. Today, the project consumes only 5 acres of the 20 acre site and produced approximately 1,592,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in its first year of operation. That's equivalent to the power consumed by 128 homes over the same period of time! https://bit.ly/3YApojj

“We just don’t have the kinds of [clean energy training] programs that we need in these communities.” — Marcela Díaz, Somos Un Pueblo Unido In New Mexico, many oil and gas workers are eager to transition to clean-energy jobs. "But it’s hard to get the necessary training when you’re working long hours, or if you lack English language skills, or live in a rural area." A new state pilot program will pay workers, regardless of immigration status, to participate in workforce training programs in renewable energy and other fields: https://bit.ly/415Of1p

"The Vicars Community Center at the Community Church Atlanta rode through Hurricane Helene without losing power. But if it had, 'there’s enough battery storage to keep critical systems going for three days, even if it can’t be recharged by solar. If the sun shines, it can go on and on.'” — Michelle Moore, Groundswell, Inc. For a facility that provides critical food and shelter to a community, a power outage can be much more than an inconvenience.
