Do your cloud costs have you feeling like a Krabby Patty? Edera Protect can help with that too. Edera Protect breaks the accepted cycle of cloud security through microkernel hypervisor isolation, dynamic resource allocation, and multi-cloud flexibility. Check out the blog linked in the comments for the story.

Strong workload isolation for your Kubernetes and AI environments, without the complexity.
关于我们
Edera is transforming cloud security by making true workload isolation a reality for the first time. Edera Protect builds security into the foundation of the infrastructure, allowing developers to maintain their preferred tools and processes while automatically preventing attacks from spreading between workloads. Organizations can now achieve secure multi-tenancy for Kubernetes and AI workloads without sacrificing development speed or increasing cloud costs. Female-founded and headquartered in Seattle, Edera is built on the principle that diverse perspectives and balanced teams create better technology.

One key component in the Edera Protect platform is the component which actually runs a workload in a hardened and isolated container sandbox. This component bridges the gap between the world of OCI containers and the world of virtual machines by translating between these paradigms. As part of this component, we needed to write code to manage and tear down workloads running in zones, the Edera term that roughly maps to a virtual machine. Needless to say the workload management service does a lot of the heavy lifting in Edera Protect, but at its core is a container sandboxing implementation. At first, we built a very minimal container sandboxing implementation that was sufficient for demos, but in recent months we revisited the workload management design to ensure it would scale. As part of this, we looked toward the open source containers community to find a pre-existing sandboxing tool which would be aligned with our secure by design principles. Unfortunately: we didn’t find anything terribly useful for our needs. Instead sandboxing tools have largely been focused around the command-line experience, making consumption of them in other projects potentially error prone. As part of Edera’s commitment to secure by design principles, it was obvious to the team that we needed to build something like the CRI but for the container sandboxing itself: take JSON configuration as input and do exactly what that configuration says to do. So we built it, and today, we are open sourcing it as Styrolite. Link to the GitHub in the comments to satisfy the algorithm…

It’s a big day for the Edera community — from our customers and partners to our team and the industry at large. Today’s announcements really represent what we think about at Edera every day: Creating substance over noise and delivering meaningful impact. Today marks a major milestone for us at Edera and it’s hard to believe I’m saying this about a project that was barely more than an idea I was messing around with a year ago. Introducing Edera Protect 1.0 – a security solution that doesn’t just detect threats, but prevents them at the architectural level. Using “zones†to isolate containers by default, Edera Protect eliminates entire classes of threats, reducing the security burden on development teams. Think of it as the next-gen Kubernetes sandbox—only smarter and stronger. Key Highlights: * Over 250 secure zones per Kubernetes node with just 64GB of RAM * Lightning-fast container start times, comparable to native Docker, thanks to “warm zones†* Full support for Amazon Linux 2023 and seamless integration with Cilium CNI * Scalable to tens of thousands of nodes with zero disruption This release isn’t just about technology—it represents our commitment to pushing boundaries and sustaining trust in modern cloud infrastructure. We're excited to further our collaboration in the open source community. We will be talking about all of these new developments next week at KubeCon. Find us at Kuberoke, join us at our one-year anniversary happy hour and catch all our talks around town.

Last week was our Edera offsite in NYC and I have not felt more excited about a company, team or ELT than I do now. Offsites can be overstimulating, draining and a giant headache (HR friends - iykyk). But I've come home more sure than ever about the future here. I'm already looking forward to getting the team together again later in the year. If you want to meet some of the amazing Edera team and you'll be in London for KubeCon EU, join us for our anniversary party on April 1 at cloud M Tower of London 6-9pm. Registration link in comments.
