Great to see ARPA-E ROSIE projects driving innovation and sustainability in the iron and steel industry ??. If you're interested in key updates on industrial decarbonization funding announcements, engagement opportunities, and relevant topical news from ARPA-E, sign-up for our new newsletter focused on the iron and steel sectors: https://lnkd.in/egXtg-Vf.?
Continuing to forge a greener iron and steel industry, Electra is launching its ARPA-E ROSIE project to develop and build a prototype system to recover iron metal and flux materials from Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel slag. A by-product of steelmaking, EAF slag has low iron content, making it an unconventional but potentially valuable feedstock.? As Electra’s co-founder and CTO Quoc Pham explains, “We envision a completely circular US steelmaking ecosystem that regenerates both iron and flux materials lost to slag during steel production. This will enable a domestically sourced value chain of flux materials and ore-based metallics for steel with a reduced environmental impact. We are grateful to ARPA-E’s support as we develop this technology to increase circularity and sustainability within the industry.” Learn more about ARPA-E's ROSIE program here: https://lnkd.in/eB85dCvs
