The startup mindset about #compliance has changed dramatically since we launched Eden Data in 2021: ???Startups are getting compliant at much earlier stages. Four years ago, companies began #investing in compliance around Series B. Now, a ton of the companies we speak with are Seed or Pre-seed! Some of these companies don’t even have #revenue yet but are already planning ahead to predict what their customers/prospects will care about! #Startups are promoting their compliance posture to build trust in their markets. Some even begin by launching a public Trust Center, which is why we’re so darn excited about the Drata acquisition of SafeBase! Startups recognize that the world is changing and that doing business globally requires a compliance-first mindset. SOC 2 is now just table stakes, with many startups increasingly asking us about GDPR, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, and other International frameworks.

?? Warby Parker being fined $1.5M for #HIPAA violations is a wake-up call for #healthtech companies! #Cybersecurity and #compliance aren’t just enterprise concerns. Warby Parker, a well-known DTC eyewear brand, just learned this the hard way—facing a $1.5M fine for failing to safeguard sensitive health data. Between Sept–Nov 2018, hackers used credential stuffing attacks to #breach nearly 200,000 customer accounts, exposing: ?? Names & contact details ?? Partial payment info ?? Eyewear prescription data The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (the folks who enforce HIPAA) found three critical #security failures: ? No risk assessment of potential security vulnerabilities ? Weak security measures to prevent attacks ? No regular audit logs or system activity reviews ?? Takeaway for #Startups & #Scaleups: If you store or process sensitive data, compliance just isn’t optional. Proactive security isn’t just about avoiding fines though (or protecting your reputation)—it’s about protecting your customers and earning their trust.
