Should kids and adults be separated during the holidays? EDC's Joy Lorenzo Kennedy, Ph.D., developmental psychologist and researcher, is featured in this HuffPost article: https://lnkd.in/gvdweB8T Kennedy provided expert insights on why separating children from adults at holiday events is not recommended, as it prevents kids from learning important social and behavioral skills from their elders. EDC is honored to have our researchers contribute their expertise to important discussions around family dynamics and child development.

🌍 COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan! 🌍 I’m attending this year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) alongside my colleagues at edc.org. 🎤 I'll also be speaking at the YOUNGO Headline Event on November 18th, 2024, from 10:00h - 13:00h AZT in Plenary Caspian, Area D. Looking forward to the discussions on youth-led climate action and intergenerational collaboration! 🌱 At EDC, we bring a much needed focus to the intersection of education, workforce development, and climate change. Through initiatives like Inspiring Climate Action Now (ICAN) and Our World, Our Work (OWOW), we are committed to ensure young people can thrive by advancing climate ready education and green workforce development. 🌍 Why COP29 Matters: This year’s COP29 is all about strengthening global commitments and ensuring financial resources are directed to action. It's crucial we prioritize inclusive solutions that support youth and women, especially from marginalized communities. 📊 Did you know? Less than 1% of global climate finance is directed toward climate education, and less than 40% of NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) plans include a focus on skills development. This gap underscores the urgent need to invest in equipping young people with the skills needed for the green economy and to thrive in a climate-impacted world. 🌱 💬 Feel free to reach out! I’m looking forward to connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations at COP29 to make climate education and green skills central to the global climate agenda. #COP29 #ClimateAction #YouthLeadership #ClimateFinance #GreenSkills #EducationMatters #Sustainability #ICAN #EDC #OWOW #ClimateJustice #GreenEconomy

Last week, EDC was at #GSA2024 in Seattle for the Annual Scientific Meeting to discuss key developments in gerontology. EDC experts presented findings on strategies to prevent elder mistreatment, approaches to improve the quality and equity of dementia care, the role of caregivers in elder mistreatment prevention, and improving elder mistreatment screening and prevention in dementia care. A heartfelt congratulations to all of our dedicated staff for fostering an enriching environment filled with meaningful and fruitful discussion, as well as our partners at The John A. Hartford Foundation. Join us tomorrow for a free virtual summit that will explore how to improve services and supports for people with dementia and their caregivers: https://lnkd.in/enKzx6cR

Today marks 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 at #COP29. A just transition to a green economy will not be achieved without putting 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿e and ensuring they have the skills and jobs to participate in the green economy.  This was the headline message from an engaging roundtable co-chaired by the COP29 High Level Climate Champion Nigar Arpadarai and sponsored by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, #Systemiq, World Resources Institute, NDC Partnership and edc.org in Baku. The roundtable included high level representatives from governments, UN agencies, the private sector, development finance and cooperation agencies, philanthropies and employers' organizations. Key messages included:  🔹 Failing to invest in people will be 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀  🔹 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to deliver our climate goals and must be at the heart of climate and economic strategies. The NDC updates are a crucial process to seize this opportunity.   🔹 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 will be able to navigate the transition's impacts while simultaneously empowering them to drive the new climate-friendly economy.  🔹 Investing in people for a just transition requires integrated action on 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.  Participants strongly supported the need for an initiative to advance 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 to help frame a global agenda, mobilise action in countries and engage with businesses. The initiative will drive action on the COP29 Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience. A 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 to further strengthen the case for action will be launched at COP30 and the initiative will support 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 to work on the climate-skills-jobs-nexus in the forthcoming months.  We thank all participants for their outstanding contribution and energy during the session, and for their 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮.
