"In Lancaster County, there were 5,509 fewer people employed and 589 more people looking for work in August than July when the labor force reached its highest since 1990. The August decline?in employment followed?a jump in July, which was preceded by?two months?of decreases. Those declines raised concerns about potential softening of the county’s tight labor market. The fluctuations highlight uncertainty in the labor market, said Rae Ann Miller, manager of the Center for Regional Analysis, which is a part of the economic development organization EDC Lancaster County. The data also seem to bolster what Miller said businesses have anecdotally shared – a return to more careful pre-pandemic hiring practices." (via LNP | LancasterOnline) The #LancasterPA labor market has been tight for some time, and the most recent #unemployment and #laborforce data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for August shows that that tightness...remains.

Meet Peter DiEgidio, a senior economics major at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. Over the summer, Peter joined EDC's #CenterforRegionalAnalysis as an economic research and analysis intern for the chance to work with real data from the local community alongside CRA manager Rae Ann Miller: "During this internship, I had the opportunity to explore and analyze data, network with other professionals in the community, and improve upon hard skills such as retrieving data, working with spreadsheets, and creating visualizations. Some things I learned during this internship are that: 1?? Data is a world of truth that needs to be explored and presented in an unbiased way. 2?? Never be scared to network and ask others questions in order to improve your understanding and skills. 3?? Data always tells a story, and that story is important to be shown in a clear narrative when presenting the findings." Peter's story didn't end with summer, however. After making quite an impact in his short time on the team, we were happy to invite him back to continue his work during the fall semester! ????

Over the past year, we've heard from countless businesses that had put expansion plans on hold as they "waited it out" for #interestrates to cool. Following the Fed's rate cut in September, the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development has announced a half-point drop in rates for traditional #PIDA loans in Q4. Contact the team at EDC Finance Corporation to learn more! #EDCLancaster #EDCFinance #PIDAloan #PADCED #EconomicDevelopment #LancasterPA
Updated #PIDAloan rates for Q4 have been released, showing a half-point drop from Q3 rates on 15-year and 7-year term loans! With long-term, fixed-rate financing on up to 50% or $2mm of industrial projects, traditional PIDA real estate loans are ideal for larger-scale projects involving: ?? Purchase of owner-occupied real estate or equipment ??? Building or renovating real estate ?? Industrial site development ?? Multi-tenant purchases or renovations Whether you've been waiting for lower interest rates to move a project forward, or are just now in the planning stages for an upcoming expansion or relocation, now is a great time to get in touch with EDC Finance Corporation to explore which EDCF lending tools are the best fit for your project! "The Pennsylvania Wilds promotional effort in the rugged northcentral mountains is probably the most visible example of the potential of marketing an entire region. But Lancaster County’s outdoors offerings are considerable and growing. Growing enough that the EDC Lancaster County economic development agency has embarked on a project to get a handle on the county’s recreational assets and map out a plan to bring more people in to enjoy them while drumming up more businesses to cater to their needs while here. The agency?is partnering with a consultant, the Discover Lancaster tourism arm and the Lancaster County Planning Commission. “There is a huge opportunity,” said Ezra Rothman, president of EDC Lancaster County. “One is urban redevelopment. The city is doing great but there are 18 boroughs that really need a hand and trail connectivity is one of the significant ways.” (via LNP | LancasterOnline) #EDCLancaster #OutdoorRecreationEconomy #LancasterPA #EconomicDevelopment

While there are many reasons to enjoy EDC's annual Member Briefing breakfast, we like to focus on two primary goals for this event: sharing news & updates from EDC Lancaster County & EDC Finance Corporation with our Member supporters, and providing an opportunity for our Member companies to engage with one another and grow their networks. These relationships are not only the lifeblood for so much of EDC's work in the community – they are the glue that keeps Lancaster's business community so well connected, too. When a local business reaches out with an opportunity (or challenge) for their company's growth, our team works to find ways to support them directly –?with financing assistance, with help navigating the development process – and to connect them with the resources they need to move their project forward. When your business becomes an #EDCMember, you are helping to ensure these services remain available for local companies that are looking to grow and remain in Lancaster County. In other words, an investment into EDC is an investment into the whole #LancasterPA business community. To learn more about becoming a Member, visit https://lnkd.in/eBFeiDkH or contact Brianna Titi, MSL ([email protected]). #EDCLancaster #EDCFinance #LocalBusinessCommunity #EconomicDevelopment #LancasterCountyPA
