One of our community partners, the Pitt County Government Planning and Development Department, met with ECU Health board members to highlight the important work they're doing to address homelessness in Pitt County through Project Safe Shelter. Project Safe Shelter serves as an entry point for those experiencing homelessness in our community by providing hotel assistance when shelters are full. In the last six years, Project Safe Shelter has used funds awarded through the Community Benefit Grants Program to provide more than 700 nights of lodging to families in need. Thank you for sharing the impact this program continues to have in Pitt County!

Recently, Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, WARM, met with ECU Health Community Hospital Board members to share about the work they do in Duplin County. WARM is a Community Benefit Grants Program recipient with ECU Health Duplin Hospital. The funds they've received through the program have allowed them to provide free home repairs for several low-income homeowners. These repairs include HVAC repairs or replacements, plumbing, appliance replacement and post-natural disaster repairs. Thank you for sharing the positive impact your work has made in the Duplin community!

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the SERVICE LEAGUE OF GREENVILLE INC November meeting to thank the Service Leage for their recent $1 million investment to create The Service League of Greenville Undergraduate Scholarship Endowment. This is the largest scholarship endowment in the history of East Carolina University College of Nursing. The scholarship is intended to reduce student financial burden during and after graduation so they can care for residents of eastern NC and beyond. The inaugural scholarship recipients shared the impact the scholarship will have on their education, and we presented Service League members with a commemorative pin and medallion in appreciation of their continued support of #PirateNurses! On behalf of #PirateNurseNation, I would like to thank the Service League of Greenville for this magnanimous gift. I would also like to appreciate them for their support, generosity, and dedication to improving health and wellbeing for residents of the region. I can’t wait to wear my Service League commemorative pin. Shoutout to Dr. Herb Garrison and Grace Tolson for leading this effort, I truly appreciate you. Thank you also to Dr. Scott Senatore, Elizabeth Maxwell, and everyone who worked in the background at ECU Health Foundation to make this a success!! GO PIRATES!!!????????????
