?? Greenbuild International Conference & Expo 2024 -- What a truly remarkable week of events! We connected with new and old friends, learned so much, and celebrated together. ?? We had a fantastic time with our team who attended #Greenbuild2024 in Philadelphia last week, but we’re especially grateful to our amazing #TeamEcoworks for holding down the fort while we were all out of office ???? ?A few highlights from our team last week: ?? We had the opportunity to meet in person with our long-time partners in sustainability, Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), for a check-in and strategic planning session focused on upholding the highest #GreenBuilding certification standards and sustainability goals. ?? We were honored to be showcased as an Exclusive Member at the U.S. Green Building Council Booth, celebrating our long-standing partnership and support of USGBC’s mission through community involvement and events—all aimed at making a positive impact on sustainability at all levels. #BuildingBetterTogether ?? Carlie Bullock-Jones, LEED Fellow, WELL AP helped lead an informative presentation on Iconic Buildings through LEED v5 O+M and led an engaging workshop on achieving TRUE Certification for Zero Waste goals with Celia Ristow, while E.V. Bennett facilitated the breakout sessions with her expertise. Also, a bonus site visit for our Project Solutions Studio at a major project we are working on at a college campus in Philadelphia. #TRUEtotheGame #LEEDwithEcoworks ?? As always, we look forward to one of our favorite and most inspiring #Greenbuild events—the Women in Green luncheon. This year's remarkable panel made possible by Rhiannon Jacobsen featured Barbara Rodriguez Droguett, PhD, Ashantae Green, Tammy Lee, Miranda G. Gardiner, LEED Fellow, and Melissa Bilec , all moderated by the one-and-only Juana Summers. An absolute delight, to say the least. Juana left us with a quote that can resonate with many right now: "We are all stronger than our fears." #AlltheFeels ?? And last, but certainly not least, was an epic #GBAfterParty— (which we affectionately also refer to as #BlingBuild) co-hosted with Thornton Tomasetti & several fantastic co-sponsor organizations that helped bring this celebration to life. We hit the dance floor and raised funds for the Malcolm Lewis IMPACT! Award. What could be better than ending such a wonderful week with dancing and celebration for a cause? There were so many inspiring individuals (and organizations) we met this year that we can’t possibly tag everyone in this post, but we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to making this event possible. This incredible experience wouldn’t be achievable without each and every one of you. Thank you to all our #Green colleagues who make Greenbuild so special each year!

This week, we had the opportunity to celebrate a significant milestone as Amy Danner marks her one-year anniversary with Ecoworks Studio! In just one year, Amy has made a fantastic impact and become an invaluable member of our Project Solutions Studio. She consistently demonstrates dedication, expertise, and teamwork in every project she takes on. Her contributions not only drive our success but also inspire and support those around her. When she's not helping project teams achieve green building certifications, she’s busy dominating our company team-building games as the reigning Ecoworks Challenge champion (#IYKYK) ?? ? Project Highlight: TVS ? TVS Atlanta has reached a significant milestone by transitioning from a multi-floor office in Midtown Atlanta to a more efficient single-floor workspace that integrates seamlessly with the urban environment. The design team addressed three key goals: enhancing human experiences, improving team collaboration, and fostering innovation. Committed to sustainability, the team set ambitious LEED and WELL certification goals to support employee wellness through both policies and the physical environment. The project became the first in the WORLD to achieve dual LEED Platinum and WELL Platinum certifications under the new LEED + WELL Streamlined Certification Process, all while navigating budget constraints and challenging construction conditions, including long lead times and rising material costs. Through these endeavors, four guiding design pillars emerged: Be Better Together, Celebrate the Design Process, Cultivate Joy, and Embrace Human and Planetary Health. Using integrative approaches such as holistic design, data-driven decision-making, adaptive reuse strategies, and retrofit innovations, the collaboration among team members led to innovative solutions. This positioned the project as a pioneering model in sustainable design, demonstrating that high levels of sustainability can be achieved economically while prioritizing occupant health and well-being. It’s a testament to this commitment that Georgia ranked #?? 5 nationally in the USGBC’s annual list of Top U.S. States for LEED last year. At Ecoworks Studio, community building and volunteer efforts are a key part of our mission, which is why we offer volunteer days as part of our employee benefits to support our local communities. Our very own Andrew Zumwalt-Hathaway exemplifies this commitment through his dedicated work with the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, Inc. (DESK) in New Haven, Connecticut. What happens when a DESK volunteer and a superfan of the New Haven arts and culture scene come together? The New Haven Cares Festival of Arts and Music has been born, and we couldn't be more proud and excited ?? ?? This fundraising event, conceived by Andy, will turn some of the city's hottest night spots into venues for collecting donations for the annual DESK Thanksgiving For All program, ensuring a blend of goodwill and enjoyment. Starting today, events throughout the week will combine arts and music to raise funds for the Thanksgiving for All Program. ? PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: UCB ? Ecoworks Studio is proud to have worked with UCB on the renovation of its U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, achieving #LEED Gold and #WELL Platinum certifications. This project is notable as the first pharmaceutical facility globally to earn both designations and the first WELL Platinum Certified project in Georgia, underscoring UCB's commitment to green building practices and prioritizing employee health & well-being. UCB Warehouse transformed an existing building into a vibrant amenity hub, diverting over 85% of construction waste through material reuse. Key features include dynamic glazing, a fully electric commercial kitchen, and a 223-kWh solar array that reduces energy consumption by 30%. Stormwater management strategies, such as rainwater cisterns and permeable paving, effectively handle significant rainfall events while enhancing the site’s sustainability. The organization offers farm-to-table food options, a fitness center, scenic nature trails, stunning views, quality lighting, and acoustical treatments to enhance occupant productivity, health, and comfort. These initiatives improve the workplace for employees while significantly lowering the environmental footprint and contributing positively to the greater Atlanta community.
