Teaming up with nature to build the most ecological wind farm yet.

关于我们

With Ecowende, we are at the forefront of the future as we build the most ecological wind farm yet. We want to help make a positive contribution to biodiversity and thus accelerate the large-scale roll-out of offshore wind in the Netherlands and beyond. We know that renewable energy must become more sustainable. To contribute to this, we will implement various innovations to stimulate a flourishing ecosystem and realise a minimal impact on marine mammals, birds and bats, and a vibrant marine life. Our wind farm will be located about 53 kilometres off the Dutch coast. With an installed capacity of approximately 760 MW, we can make about 3% of the current Dutch electricity demand greener. The plan is to have Ecowende fully commissioned in 2026. Follow us to learn more about Ecowende, our innovations, and latest developments!

?? Van Oord and Ecowende boost North Sea biodiversity with Tree Reefs and Oyster Hubs ???? We have signed a contract with Van Oord for the design, construction and installation of Tree Reefs and Oyster Hubs at our wind farm. It is the first time Tree Reefs will be implemented on such a large scale in the North Sea. Tree Reefs are biodegradable reef structures made from discarded fruit trees, which are relatively sturdy and stable. The trees will be collected from the Dutch fruit cultivation sector and are usually cleared as soon as they start producing less fruit. Tjeerd Bouma Scientist at NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research and original initiator of the Tree Reefs: “It is a dream come true to see a Tree Reef being implemented in the North Sea. We are happy with the expertise of Van Oord in upscaling this eco-innovation.” Van Oord and Ecowende will also collaborate on constructing Oyster Hubs. This innovation was developed in collaboration with Waardenburg Ecology. The hubs consist of adult oysters of varying sizes placed on designated cable crossings to serve as a source of oyster larvae. Karen Vennik, Commercial Director for Offshore Energy and Ocean Health at Van Oord: "Van Oord is excited to bring innovative solutions such as Tree Reefs and Oyster Hubs to the Ecowende wind farm. This marks a significant step in our commitment to not only delivering sustainable offshore infrastructure but also enhancing biodiversity in the North Sea." Waardenburg Ecology will measure and monitor the effects of these two innovations. According to Jelle Muller, Ecology Project Engineer at Ecowende, "Insights and lessons learned from these two eco-innovations will be shared with the offshore and ecology communities to close knowledge gaps and accelerate the large-scale roll-out of offshore wind in harmony with nature." ? Tjalling de Bruin on Energy Port IJmond: "In the interest of energy security, transition, and ambition" ?? Ecowende is one of the parties with a vested interest in the establishment of the Energy Port IJmond. Construction of our wind farm has already begun. The vessels that transport materials still travel to the ports of Rotterdam and Eemshaven, a considerable distance from the Hollandse Kust West wind farm. Tjalling de Bruin, CEO at Ecowende: “The closer we can get to the installation harbour for construction, assembly, and maintenance of the wind park, the more sustainable it will be.” Tjalling also highlights the importance of the Energy Port IJmond. “If the Dutch government wants to achieve the massive goal of 21 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2032, this needs to be facilitated. It is in the interest of energy security, transition, and ambition that the Energy Port is established. Not only for the Netherlands but also for neighbouring countries that wish to make use of it.” Recently, Tjalling spoke with journalist Jiska Kroon for the Programmabureau Noordzeekanaalgebied | NZKG Noordzeekanaalgebied about the importance and necessity of the new port. ?? Partner in the spotlight: CAPE Holland ?? The?CAPE Holland?Vibro Lifting Technology?plays a crucial role in supporting our ambitious ecological objectives to build the Ecowende wind farm with minimal impact on marine life. As one of the innovative solutions, the CAPE Vibro Lifting Technology will significantly minimize piling noise compared to conventional hammering methods. Vibro technology applies vertical vibrations to temporarily reduce soil resistance, allowing gravity to push the pile into the ground. At three foundation sites, as part of a test, GBM Works’ vibro jetting technology will be added to the CAPE Vibro Lifting Tool, with the aim to drive piles deeper than with vibro driving alone. The long-term goal is to be able to offer vibro driving to final penetration depth with or without additional technologies at future projects to eliminate the emissions of underwater noise as much as possible. Ecowende will be an important project to make this possible. Dick van Wijngaarden, Business Development Manager CAPE Holland: “We’re delighted that we have been selected for this first large-scale implementation of our innovative technique at a Dutch offshore wind farm. Our Vibro Lifting Tool will help reduce the environmental impact during the installation phase.” Read more about CAPE Holland on our website ?? https://lnkd.in/dxnKZAP3 #TeamingUpWithNature #SilentInstallationTechniques #Innovation Shell Eneco Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. ?? Waardenburg and NIOZ begin ecological monitoring of the seabed ?? ? End of last year, Waardenburg Ecology and NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research began monitoring marine life on the seabed at Hollandse Kust West, the site where our wind farm will be built. This monitoring campaign is one of the first steps in our ecological monitoring program, with Waardenburg mapping the current underwater nature, while WaterProof Marine Consultancy & Services B.V. measures non-biological factors like water temperature and flow velocity. During this campaign, scraping samples were collected from 21 locations using a 1.6-ton scraper. The upper seabed layer was collected, leaving marine life in the deeper seabed behind. This method, known as Triple D Dredging, provides insight into the seabed ecosystem. Sytske van den Akker, Waardenburg Ecology, said: “It’s incredible to see how the NIOZ crew manages the heavy scraper with precision in rough waves. But the most rewarding part is sorting the samples and discovering species like sea potatoes, brittle stars, and even a short-snouted seahorse, which is typically found in southern waters.” ? ?? Partner in the spotlight: WaterProof Marine Consultancy & Services ?? Sound plays an important role in the life of fish and marine animals, who use it to orient themselves, to communicate, and to locate prey. It is known that seals, harbour porpoises and other marine mammals are disturbed by sound from human activities, such as the construction of an offshore wind farm. Underwater measurements are essential for expanding our knowledge about the North Sea ecosystem. That’s why our partner WaterProof Marine Consultancy & Services B.V. has set up an extensive research programme on behalf of Ecowende. Measurements at the Hollandse Kust West wind farm of underwater sound, electromagnetic fields, currents, sand waves, and presence of marine mammals will be used to fill gaps in the knowledge about the underwater ecology of the North Sea. These measurements are used to calibrate models, resulting in more accurate predictions of the impact of future wind farms on the underwater ecology. ?? Milestone achieved: first GBM Jetring delivered! ?? We’re excited to share a significant achievement – the first of three Jetrings manufactured by our partner GBM Works is delivered to Sif Group in Roermond. ?? These Jetrings play a vital role in the Vibrojet? system, used to install some of the monopiles of the wind turbines for our offshore windfarm. The water jets hosted by the Jetring fluidize the soil during vibrohammer installation, reducing pile friction. This means the probability that a conventional impact hammer is needed is also reduced. The ultimate goal is to limit noise during the construction phase and disturb marine life as little as possible. The remaining two rings are on track for delivery in the coming weeks to Sif in Roermond. Sif is the manufacturer of our monopiles. Once received, Sif will incorporate the rings seamlessly into the production line of the monopiles. Following integration, the jetting components will undergo rigorous pressure testing by GBM at the Sif yard on the Maasvlakte in June 2025. Albart Barents, Project Manager at GBM, reflects: “I am excited to announce the successful delivery of our first Jetring! This significant milestone was made possible by the incredible efforts of our team, subcontractors KCI and KERSTEN, and Ecowende. Onward to the next steps in making this project a major success. We’re proud to collaborate with Sif and contribute to Ecowende’s vision of teaming up with nature to build the most environmentally friendly windfarm to date. Together, we’re pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability in offshore construction and leading the way for affordable, sustainable and responsible offshore energy.” Joe Haley, Foundation Innovation?Lead at Ecowende, adds: “The delivery of the first Jetring is a major step forward for vibrojetting, and the aim of reducing offshore construction noise on our project. It is an exciting start to the year; it's the first of many milestones in 2025! Bringing the Jeting from the drawing board into reality has taken a united team effort with GBM Works, Kersten, KCI, Ramboll, Sif and Ecowende – congratulations to the teams involved.” #SilentInstallations #Innovation #Vibrojet #OffshoreWind #sustainability #ecology #marinelife #windenergy #teamingupwithnature Shell Eneco Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.
