Providing ecosystem planning and restoration services to support a sustainable environment
关于我们
EPR was created in 2012 to be a premier environmental planning and ecosystem restoration company. Our desire is to provide environmental services with the highest quality products, and to improve the science and application of stream and wetland restoration through innovative projects and applied research. ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION EPR staff has designed projects throughout the eastern United States and in the emerging market of the Gulf Coast Region that represent a wide range of conditions and challenges. Our experience is unmatched and includes hundreds of stream and wetland restoration projects, design and construction, development of regional curves and reference reach data sets, and monitoring of past projects to continually advance the science. We tailor innovative solutions to meet our client’s goals and objectives, within the real-world constraints that are a part of every project. ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING Our environmental planning services assist federal, state, municipal organizations, and private clients with their regulatory compliance needs. We have extensive experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related state regulations. Our staff has expertise in planning, environmental impact assessments, and permitting. We have worked with cities, states, and federal agencies to help all interested parties participate in the planning process. We have prepared all types of environmental documents (e.g., Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Categorical Exclusions) for both federal and state clients.

EPR’s Senior Environmental Scientist and Forester, Tom Barrett, has been working closely with The Nature Conservancy to assess and design a plan that will improve fish passage and?hydrological?connection on a 928-acre site along the Roanoke River in Northampton County, NC.?To meet these goals, EPR is proposing to remove culverts and levees, fill in an extensive ditch network, and reconnect abandoned natural channels with the river. This work will improve the aquatic habitat for baitfish species such as shad and river herring and ultimately the striped bass. EPR is honored to be part of the newly awarded RCPP project, "Stream Restoration in the Duck River Watershed: Protecting and Enhancing Aquatic Habitat for America’s Most Biodiverse River." Our lead partner, Duck River Watershed Society, secured $20 million for this initiative in Tennessee, with contributions from The Nature Conservancy's Tennessee Chapter, the Tennessee Environmental Council, and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. This milestone represents a significant step in advancing locally driven conservation strategies that address critical natural resource challenges. We are eager to collaborate on projects that will enhance environmental resilience and promote sustainable agriculture across the region. EPR is proud to partner with Blue Ridge Resource Conservation and Development, New River Conservancy, and the Blue Ridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited on a newly awarded USDA-RCPP project, titled “Ecosystem Restoration in North Carolina’s High Country: Providing Ecological Uplift for North America’s Oldest Rivers.” This initiative, supported by $15 million in USDA funding, is vital for advancing stream restoration, improving water quality, and promoting sustainable agriculture in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s impact on the region. The project will focus on restoring streambanks, establishing riparian buffers, and enhancing agricultural lands to create resilient ecosystems in western North Carolina. Led by EPR’s Asheville-based team, headed by Blue Ridge native Jake Byers, PE, this collaborative effort aims to foster environmental, social, and economic resilience while addressing critical natural resource challenges in response to climate change. As part of the USDA's recent $1.5 billion national commitment to conservation and climate resilience, this partnership will deliver multi-benefit outcomes for our communities and environment, including carbon sequestration and improved habitat connectivity. Work is set to begin in 2025, with a focus on sustainable, long-term results. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this initiative further. For more details on the USDA’s conservation efforts, please read their recent announcement. https://lnkd.in/gB4Ndakz #USDA #RCPP #Conservation

We're thrilled to see the Fort Meade Stream Restoration project coming to life! This effort is a testament to the power of collaboration in restoring natural systems and enhancing habitat value. By reconnecting these tributaries to their historic floodplains and incorporating innovative structures, we're not just restoring 3,800 linear feet of stream—we're also creating a resilient ecosystem that will benefit the community and wildlife for generations to come. Kudos to everyone involved in making this vision a reality! #EcosystemRestoration #StreamRestoration #SustainableDesign #CollaborativeSuccess
Construction is now underway at the Fort Meade Stream Restoration project! This initiative, designed by?Ecosystem Planning and Restoration and overseen by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)?and the Western Maryland Resource Conservation and Development Council, aims to restore 3,800 linear feet of unnamed tributaries to Severn Run. Our approach involves reconnecting these tributaries to their historic floodplains by filling and raising the channels, which have become deeply incised due to changes in land use and runoff patterns. Throughout the system, we’ll install grade control structures like rock and log sills, cobble weirs, riffles and rock step pools. Additionally, we’ll incorporate woody debris within the floodplain and stream channels to enhance habitat value. Check out our progress in these photos!

?? Innovative Solutions for Shoreline Protection on National #EstuariesWeek ?? At EPR, we believe combating shoreline erosion requires innovative, sustainable solutions. Our Turnbull Estates project in Glebe Bay, Maryland, exemplifies this philosophy through the use of Reef Balls, which are designed to ?provide both shoreline protection and oyster habitat.. This approach not only mitigates erosion but also fosters biodiversity, creating living shorelines that benefit the environment and the community. By supporting oyster bed growth and providing wave attenuation, we’re contributing to a healthier estuary and a more resilient shoreline.
