But they didn't just survive; they're thriving, thanks to the work of our partners Green Ethiopia (and your searches on Ecosia) ?? Now, all those trees are filtering water, making sure local populations and animals have safe water to drink. They're also stabilizing the soil when it rains. Without the trees, the water would wash the soil away downhill, causing landslides and slowly eroding the mountain. Your searches truly make a difference ? They're cutting down the Amazon... to host a climate conference? According to the BBC and several Brazilian news sources, a new highway is being built through Earth's largest rainforest to prepare for COP30. While the state government of Pará had wanted to build the highway since 2012, the project “had repeatedly been shelved because of environmental concerns. Now a host of infrastructure projects have been resurrected or approved to prepare the city for the COP summit.” While we need to consider that the highway also serves the needs of local populations, the timing with COP30 is raising questions on the larger effect of these conferences, which so far have struggled to lead to real commitments for the planet. We'll also work with Aqysta to help farmers sell the products they grow both locally and internationally, creating sustainable opportunities for their communities. America’s forests are under threat. One of Donald Trump’s latest executive orders has ordered that anywhere from 101 to 113 million hectares of national forests and public lands be cut down for timber. In other words: this is a threat to open up a portion of US forests to commercial logging interests. All while ignoring crucial endangered species protections. This is being proposed under the guise of "wildfire prevention", but scientists have been clear that cutting down more trees will make fires worse and more dangerous. This is all about corporate greed. These forests support biodiversity, provide clean water, offer recreational spaces, and help fight climate change. It's time to speak up for their protection.
