?? Exciting News from MSP Challenge! ?? We are thrilled to announce the release of MSP Challenge 5.0.0, a major milestone marking years of dedicated research and development. This release introduces a variety of new features and policies focused on fisheries management. Key updates include: ???A new dashboard with a configurable and more visual view of the KPIs. ?? Seasonal bans and buffer zone policies for marine protected areas. ????A policy for ecological fishing gear regulation. ?? Support for national fishing fleets in Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE). ????The addition of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and Western Baltic Sea regions. Multi-species and multi-fleet management models are vital tools for the implementation of Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management (#EBFM), helping decision makers balance fishing needs while keeping ecosystems healthy and resilient. Alongside fishing, a range of ecological factors such as predation and environmental shifts can have a profound effect on fish stocks, thus incorporating these factors into our models allows us to more accurately predict the impacts of different management strategies. This #SEAwise report explores how different management strategies impact fish stocks and environmental status under various climate and fishing scenarios. The findings span 3 case study regions: Mediterranean Sea, #BalticSea & Western Waters and, considering FLBEIA, EwE & StrathE2E models. The EU-funded #EcoScope project was featured and discussed at the Ecopath 40 Years conference. The event hosted by the European Marine Board IVZW and the VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute in Ostend, Belgium, was entitled “The Ecosystem Continuum: From knowledge to decisions”. The conference, endorsed as a?UN Ocean Decade?event, celebrated four decades of the?Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE)?marine ecosystem modelling software, which organisers stressed is “an increasingly important tool for marine management and policy making”.? Particularly relevant to EcoScope were two workshops held as part of the conference. Ecosystem Overviews?are one of our?key products that identify human activities and resulting pressures. Describing the current state of regional ecosystems, our?Ecosystem Overviews?explain how these pressures affect key ecosystem components at a regional level. Presenting the main human activities in a region creates awareness of their distribution and the resultant pressure on the environment and ecosystems across ICES regions. The strength of the?overviews lies in the?quality of the data and information?provided, based on contributions from a large number of expert groups within?ICES community. The?overviews are developed with the most up-to-date knowledge available to the scientific community, but they also inform where knowledge is lacking, alerting to situations that need further attention and where effort is needed to close the gap.
