  • Meet the EcoSafe Team! This summer, we're excited to welcome Environmental Science Intern Avery McCarthy. Avery is a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in Environmental Science with a focus on Land and Soil. She brings valuable experience from her internship with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in Lawrence, where she regularly conducted water inspections at rock quarries, construction sites, and water treatment facilities. Avery also performed hazardous waste and air quality inspections in landfills and chemical facilities. At her university, she gained additional hands-on experience working on a research farm and as a lab assistant. “I am excited to work at EcoSafe for many reasons, but mostly for the team members. It is exciting for me to start working on a team with other women, as I have not had that opportunity in the past. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I am also excited for the opportunity of this internship; I would love to gain experience in the consulting process as well as air quality.” - Avery McCarthy

  • Meet the EcoSafe Team! This summer, we're excited to welcome Environmental Science Intern Makayla Long. Makayla is a senior at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Environmental Sustainability. She serves as the Vice President of the Student Environmental Coalition (SEC) and represents the Environmental Student Council (ESC) on the Student Activity Fee Committee. Passionate about fostering community engagement, she enjoys collaborating with other student organizations and councils to enhance campus involvement. ”I'm excited to work at EcoSafe because I want to learn more about how hazardous substances (such as asbestos) may be impacting our environment. I have an interest in environmental justice topics, such as exposure to hazardous substances. I hope to learn how to bridge the gap between environmental scientists and civilians to educate the public on topics they may not be familiar with. I'm also excited to be working with a group of individuals with like-minded interests and goals, and to apply my major to real-life situations and scenarios.” - Makayla Long
