?? Carbon Capture: The Revenue Sharing Dilemma ?? Much of the conversation around carbon capture projects focuses on the authenticity of carbon credits, are they real, are they double-counted, are they a tool for corporate greenwashing? But there’s another issue that deserves equal attention: Who profits from the carbon stored in natural capital like rainforests and peatlands? A recent Bloomberg video on the issue highlighted the billions currently at stake in carbon markets (projected to reach $1 Trillion by 2050!!) and a key challenge >> countries with these natural carbon sinks want clearer policies and revenue-sharing agreements with companies monetizing these assets. It’s a valid concern. If a private company generates carbon credits by "preserving" forests in a developing country or maintaining biodiversity, how much of the revenue should flow back to the host nation? What about local communities that have traditionally relied on these ecosystems and are primarily responsible for their upkeep? Right now, many governments are pushing for better frameworks to ensure they aren't sidelined in deals that use their land for global carbon markets, while private or foreign companies benefit. Some are even tightening regulations to control how and where carbon credits are generated. This raises important questions: ??
