It is official! After an eight-month strategic planning process, the EDC has a refreshed look that complements Sarasota County's transformed and innovative strategic plan. The EDC held 14 one-on-one meetings with community leaders and government partners, roundtable discussions, and surveys. Then, it interviewed board members for keywords and to learn what they wanted to see in a new brand. Congratulations to EDC Investor, the Sarasota Orchestra, on receiving a $60 million investment from an anonymous donor to advance the planning and construction of a new Music Center at 5701 Fruitville Road! The gift is the largest in Sarasota Orchestra's history and a record-setting philanthropic investment in a Florida-based performing arts organization. Expected to open in 2029, the Music Center will introduce Southwest Florida's first concert hall purpose-built for acoustic music, elevating the region's reputation among world-class arts destinations. Since 1949, Sarasota Orchestra has inspired and entertained music lovers across the region and visitors from around the world. Each year, the 76-member Orchestra performs more than 100 classical, pops, chamber music and community outreach concerts. Sarasota Orchestra's mission also extends to music education, including its acclaimed Sarasota Youth Orchestra programs and the world-renowned Sarasota Music Festival. The EDC team recently visited Keiser University and met with Dr. Michelle Morgan, Associate Vice Chancellor and President of Keiser University -Sarasota. Founded in 1977 by Chancellor Arthur Keiser, Ph.D., and Evelyn Keiser, Keiser University offers more than 100 degrees across its system, from associate to doctoral level. Keiser University is educating the future workforce for the Sarasota County community, with over 85% of its graduates staying local upon graduation. Keiser University is a private, independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit university serving nearly 20,000 students at 21 Florida campuses, online, and two international sites.
