Kira’s journey began as an intern, and today, she plays a vital role as a Budget and Operations Analyst, ensuring our programs run smoothly and effectively. When asked what inspired her to join EA 15 years ago, here’s what she had to say: "Ever since I was a little girl, I have cared deeply about the natural environment. Growing up, I was lucky to have parents who immersed us in the beauty of nature—from hiking the mountains of Colorado and kayaking through Florida’s mangrove forests to trekking the Andes and snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. Planet Earth is such a miraculous place, and I have always known that I wanted to dedicate my life to protecting it in the ways that I can. Ecology Action gave me the opportunity to work on programs that not only benefit the greater world but also help build and strengthen our local community." Her manager, Jamie Alonzo, couldn’t have said it better: "Kira is the backbone of our team—her work ethic, efficiency, and dedication are invaluable. She brings deep institutional knowledge and a collaborative spirit to everything she does. No matter the challenge, Kira stays cool under pressure and gets the job done. Cheers to Odalys Barajas for an incredible year at Ecology Action as our Youth Program Coordinator! Odalys focuses on providing Walk and Bike Safety Programs to elementary schools throughout Monterey County. Here’s what she had to say about her journey: "Joining Ecology Action was inspired by my passion for helping communities live more sustainable and healthy lives. I was drawn to EA’s mission and have loved working with the Salinas Youth Team since day one. It’s been amazing to be part of a supportive, hardworking, and fun team while providing Walk and Bike Safe programming at the very schools we once attended. One of my favorite memories has to be practicing to become a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) with my team—struggling together, falling into bushes, and helping each other perfect bike skills was a ton of fun! Becoming an LCI even encouraged me to get back into cycling, something I did often with my family growing up. Now, I spend my cycling time with my dog, Kora, who loves being my backpack." Cindy grew up in Gonzales, CA, and has dedicated her career to youth leadership development, family engagement, and community advocacy. Cindy is also deeply involved in Monterey County, serving on the Board of Directors at The Epicenter and creating impactful programs for local organizations.
