Curious about the fire rates between EVs and ICE vehicles? A study by AutoinsuranceEZ found that internal combustion engines (ICE) have 1,529.9 fires per 100,000 vehicles, while hybrids (which have two engines) see 3,474.5 fires per 100,000. Electric vehicles (EVs), however, experience only 25.1 fires per 100,000! Yes, putting out an EV battery fire can require more resources, and there’s still work to be done in making EV batteries more sustainable. But the actual rate of EV fires is significantly lower than ICE vehicles. The reason we don’t hear much about ICE vehicle fires anymore? They’re just too common to make headlines. EVs can even handle some flooded conditions, thanks to sealed battery compartments—though it's not something we'd recommend testing! Just like electric scooters in rainy cities, EVs are designed to handle certain elements. But remember, for longevity, take good care of your EV.
