EcoCAR EV Challenge Teams Drive Innovation at CARB Testing!????? From cutting edge research to real-world application, the EcoCAR California Air Resources Board testing event highlighted the power of collaboration between government, industry, and academia in advancing Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) technology! ???Argonne National Laboratory deployed its state-of-the-art CAV test framework and software tools, enabling repeatable vehicle testing across simulations, dynamometers, and track environments. ?? Industry sponsors AAM - American Axle & Manufacturing, Magna International, and AVL?provided on-site technical support for their products and Vehicle Technical Inspections. ?? By integrating MathWorks & dSPACE tools, leveraging CARB facilities, and receiving testing support from General Motors, government and industry partners worked together to refine CAV test procedures. ?? EcoCAR teams piloted the standardized CAV testing methods, bringing fresh, student-driven innovations into U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funded programs at Argonne. EcoCAR EV Challenge students, faculty, sponsors, and organizers had an incredible time during this year’s Winter Workshop. Led by Argonne National Laboratory, the workshop was filled with innovation, learning, and hands-on problem-solving! Here are some of the top highlights from the Year 3 Winter Workshop:? Collaborative Sessions with Subject Matter Experts ??? Teams came together for collaborative review sessions with industry subject matter experts who provided invaluable feedback. From Media Training with Stratacomm and Personal Branding with Magna International, to Electrical System Design Reviews with AVL and General Motors, these sessions helped students refine their skills, strengthen their approach to deliverables, and prepare for real-world industry challenges.? In-Depth Technical Design Reviews ??? Each team had the opportunity to present their vehicle development progress in detailed design reviews. Sponsors and organizers provided expert advice, challenged students to push boundaries, and encouraged teams to problem-solve and innovate together.? Project Status Report Outs ??? Project managers participated in Project Status Report Outs modeled after industry standard board meetings, presenting their team’s progress, discussing roadblocks, and identifying actionable next steps. This experience gave students the chance to act as professionals in the field, preparing them for the demands and expectations of the workforce.? ?The Year 3 Winter Workshop was a true demonstration of what’s possible when teamwork, technical guidance and technology converge.? The Cadillac LYRIQ took center stage during Wave 1 of this year’s Dynamometer Testing Event at California Air Resources Board, where EcoCAR EV Challenge teams showcased their newly developed and integrated propulsion systems and their adaptive cruise control algorithms.??? ?? This event is a major competition milestone as teams tested their custom LYRIQs to measure energy consumption, as well as city and highway driving.?? ?? During the testing, students translated their designs into real-world vehicle performance, taking huge steps forward in advancing the future of mobility. ?????? ??
