We all have a role in taking actionable steps to live a more sustainable life but how can we each do our part? Where do we start? Information on steps to modify our waste disposal, improve biodiversity, and reduce our emissions can be difficult to find, and even more difficult to act on. That’s why Eco leap partnered with the Town of North Hempstead, New York for the Go Green North Hempstead TV Series to present clear and engaging learning modules that educate the public about community resources, practices, and principles for sustainability. The Go Green NH Series is designed to help residents embrace practical lifestyle changes and learn about easy steps to take care of the planet while having fun doing it! The first Three Episodes cover a series of topics broken down for easy viewing: Plant Native for the Planet: This episode focuses on native plant gardening, its benefits and plant types, and how to maintain them. Growing plants that belong to the local area is important for reducing stress on our natural resources, reducing the cost of maintenance for lawn care, and building a living relationship with a garden that benefits both the environment and the gardener. Know What to Throw:? This episode uncovers how to dispose of trash and recycle correctly in the Town of North Hempstead and warns of the dangers to Manhasset Bay when mistakes are made. The episode features “Harbor the Heron,” an Eco Leap created animated character designed by Michelle Shain that helps viewers empathize and visualize the threat to wildlife and the environment when recycling and waste aren’t disposed of properly. Car Free Challenge: This episode, narrated by Councilwoman Mariann Dalimonte and Sustainable Transportation expert Rosemary Mascali takes the Car Free Challenge and shares ways residents can move around without a car including walking, The Long Island Rail Road and PedalShare Inc. Going car free has great benefits for the individual, community, and the environment. Check out the video on the challenge! Eco Leap thanks the Town Board, Climate Smart Community Task Force, Sustainability Specialist Meagan Fastuca and Communications team for their collaboration. #CarFreeChallenge #ReduceEmissions #Recycle #Green #SustainabilityTips #GoGreenSeries #EnvironmentalAwareness

Question: How can municipalities operationalize action on climate change? Answer: With expert, comprehensive climate action recommendations, planning, and a roadmap. Eco Leap helped developed the 2023 Municipal Town of North Hempstead Climate Action Plan to advance its commitment to address climate change with a reduction in greenhouse gas emission (GHG) by 20% by 2030. This plan provided a comprehensive audit of the town’s GHG inventory and delivered recommendations for a clear path to achieving emissions reduction targets. Even further, the Plan was approved by the New York State DEC Climate Smart Communities Program, Earning North Hempstead a Bronze Certification. Eco Leap recognizes the challenges faced by organizations as they begin to act on climate change initiatives. Often when organizations agree it’s time to act on climate mitigation strategies, the question of “how” to achieve targets represents the greatest barrier to implementing solutions. The Town of North Hempstead Municipal Operations Climate Action Plan covers:? - Decreasing energy use and shifting to clean renewable energy? - Improving fuel efficiency of the Town’s fleet - Increasing resilience, adaptation, and natural solutions through green infrastructure, policy evaluation, and town facility and land management practices - Greening materials and waste management practices The Plan develops a clear “Guide for Future” covering areas across: administration and staffing, financing and budgeting, developing a timeline, community-wide sustainability, and re-inventory and monitoring progress. Eco Leap contributed significantly to the plan development and its outcomes: “Preparing our community to adapt and thrive in a changing climate is one of my greatest priorities. Eco Leap played a significant role in helping the Town of North Hempstead achieve Climate Smart Communities BRONZE status.” - Mariann Dalimonte, Town of North Hemstead, Councilwoman District 6. Importantly, the plan made a commitment to evolving the process, acknowledging that research on policy and climate protection are constantly improving and evolving. This sets the stage for dynamic engagement.? #EcoLeap #ClimateAction #GreenFuture #ClimateActionPlan #GreenTown #SustainabilityGoals #EcoFriendlyCommunity #RenewableEnergy #GHGEmissionReduction #ClimateSmart #GreenInfrastructure #CleanEnergyFuture #CommunityResilience #ClimateChangeMitigation #EnvironmentalLeadership?
