A Winning Play: Eckerd Connects Workforce and Job Corps Team Up for Student Success At the recent National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) Youth Symposium, Eckerd Connects was spotlighted during a panel showcasing a game-changing approach to workforce development. The conversation highlighted how teamwork, resource-sharing, and meaningful synergy can drive powerful outcomes for students, including a 98% completion rate. Together, Eckerd Connects and Turner Job Corps are proving that the right partnerships make all the difference in preparing young people for the workforce. The panel was facilitated by NFL Hall of Famer and Eckerd Connects National Ambassador, Darrell Green, who knows a thing or two about achieving big wins. When faced with a tough choice between supporting her family and pursuing her dream, 32-year-old Jerika made a courageous decision. With three young children depending on her, she chose to stay in school and work toward becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Turning to the Eckerd Connects’ Acadiana Workforce Development program for help, Jerika received career counseling and a Workforce Innovation Opportunity Grant to complete her nursing training. Through unwavering determination, Jerika completed the LPN program. However, her journey was not without obstacles—she couldn’t travel the 60 miles needed for her state board exam due to an unreliable car. Recognizing her tenacity, the Eckerd Connects program team nominated Jerika for a Success Award. Thanks to this award, she received a new car engine, ensuring she has the means to take her state exam and step into a promising nursing career. “I greatly appreciate this award, and I can’t thank you all enough for changing my life in such a major way," said Jerika."My future is bright, and I thank you for guiding me out of the darkness.”
