For our next employee highlight, we would like to introduce Senior Manager, Stephen Dyson. Please connect with them and say hello! ?: What has your career path looked like? ???: I started my career in the USMCR as an Engineer and was a field agent in the PA Parole Board for 10 years. Following my law enforcement career, I moved to Cybersecurity as an IR consultant for a consulting firm in Philadelphia, SRA. After some time consulting, I moved to Penn Medicine to help mature their SOC and grow operational capabilities. I also did some SIEM and EDR engineering and helped to create a threat hunting program. After a few years I transitioned back into consulting with Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 where I was a Proactive consultant for 4 years. ?: Why did you choose to work at Echelon? ???: Echelon is a fast-growing, client-focused organization and I wanted to learn from the wealth of expertise on the team, help the team grow, learn from the wealth of expertise on the team, and help clients be more secure. ?: What does a typical day at work look like for you? ???: What I like best about consulting is there is not really a typical day. Each day will be a good mix of internal work, client work, and meetings. I find days where I can focus on the client work and deliverables to be the most rewarding. ?: What is something you want to fix in the field of cybersecurity? ???: The gatekeeping, while there is a drastic need for cybersecurity practitioners there is often a massive uphill battle for those looking to get into the field by those in the field. There is no correct way into the field; I have a non-traditional way of getting into cybersecurity and the varied experience and background strengths the team. ?: What do you like to do in your free time? ???: Sports – My daughter and I go to a sporting event at least monthly, our favorites are Penn State football, Seton Hall and Maryland basketball, Philadelphia 76ers, and our family goes to the US Open every year. Eat/Drink – My wife and I like to go try new restaurants or cook new recipes, we also enjoy going to wineries or wine events in the city. ?: If you were in a zombie apocalypse what character would you be and who would you want on your zombie fighting team? ???: I'd must pick to be Ash Williams, and the team would 100% start with Alice from Resident Evil and fill it out with Gerry Lane from World War Z, Shaun and Ed from Shaun of the Dead, and finally Tallahassee and Wichita from Zombieland.
