Improving the electric-vehicle charging experience within urban and extra-urban trips.

Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are increasing rapidly across Europe. However, drivers still often encounter problems in finding appropriate charging options, limiting the ease of use of EVs and potentially posing a barrier to increase the uptake of EVs. eCharge4Drivers focuses on this issue and will work to substantially improve the EV charging experience within cities and for long trips. By capturing users’ perceptions and expectations on the various charging options and their mobility and parking habits, eCharge4Drivers will develop and demonstrate pilot projects in 10 areas across Europe, including metropolitan areas and Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) corridors. Charging stations in these areas will offer user-friendly and convenient functionalities for EV drivers of passenger vehicles, motorcycles and light vehicles, such as direct payment methods and bigger, user-friendly displays.

Today was a very successful launch of our 8th?#RTR2025 Conference. More than 650 participants registered on-site and after speeches from @Rosalinde van der Vlies (DG RTD), Erik von Breska (DG MOVE), Pablo PEREZ-ILLANA (CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), Christian Merkt (CCAM Association) and Michael Lippert (BEPA - Batteries European Partnership Association)?our Chairman Stephan Neugebauer made a very clear call to continue having a strong support to pre-competitive #research and #innovation activities. While results from EU-funded projects cannot always be linked directly to product development, demonstrating impact is key for all of us. Flagship initiatives can play a role by putting research and innovation results, Member States activities and industrial investment together. A good example is the activity put forward to support the emergence reverse factory; curious to hear a little bit more? Tune in for our circularity plenary session tomorrow afternoon ! The first 2Zero session was dedicated to development of advanced solutions for?#EV?charging to benefit both the users and the grid. eCharge4Drivers, and #EGVI funded project, presented its final results and three #2Zero project (FLOW Project, XL-CONNECT and DriVe2X) also presented their intermediate results. The session led to a very lively discussion, in which, among other topics, the #V2G, impact on battery degradation, cost-benefit for the users, the #DSOs, the #TSOs … were extensively discussed. Thanks to Guido Sacchetto and Christof Schernus for the co-moderation ! Looking forward for another day of discussion tomorrow.

Over three days next week at the RTR Conference, over 90 EU-funded projects will showcase their research results in transport.
