This week I had the pleasure of leading a workshop on "PCB Layout Fundamentals". This workshop was sponsored by JLCPCB and hosted by the Society of Astronautics and Rocketry | SEDS Chapter, Pittsburgh. This workshop covered relevant topics such as PCB manufacturing, routing considerations, impedance matching, and designing for EMI/EMC performance. With a step by step routing of a RF MCU board at the end! It was a great opportunity to introduce students to a array of relevant hardware design considerations. This workshop would not have been possible without the help of Dr. Samuel J. Dickerson and Melissa Penkrot at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. I would also like to thank Emre Akcakanat for taking photos and videos of the event.

Researchers are finding that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to teaching engineering may not effectively meet the diverse needs of every student. In response, the US?National Academy of Engineering?listed personalised learning – instruction being tailored to the student’s individual needs – as one of its main challenges, encouraging engineering professors to develop new methods for their classrooms. Associate professors Renee Clark and Ahmed Dallal at the?University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering, in collaboration with the?University of Central Florida?and the?University of South Florida, received a $254,966 grant from the?US National Science Foundation (NSF)?to advance research on personalising STEM education, utilising their sophomore-level statistics and circuit classes. “We’re aiming to promote better in-class engagement by reviewing pre-requisite content for students before class in a personalised, multiple-resources fashion,” Clark, principal investigator and associate professor of industrial engineering, said in a statement. “To truly support student success, we need to embrace a more personalised approach that adapts to their diverse needs, rather than treating every student the same.” Read more here ?? https://lnkd.in/eiP9g8v9 #theengineer #engineering #education #AI #teaching

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to showcase some of our projects, including a robotic arm, battle bots, and the rover project, at the Pittsburgh Robotics Network Discovery Day 2024. It was an enjoyable experience where we connected with various robotics companies. We also demonstrated the robotic arm, which uses computer vision to track and mimic hand movements - a feature that drew significant interest from those who stopped by the table.

Intelligent space systems and robotics is a major theme of research and workforce development in SHREC, Pittsburgh is the leading city for robotics in the nation, and so we were thrilled to display some of our work and technology at the Pittsburgh Robotics Discovery Day. We recently collaborated with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and University of Pittsburgh (University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering) to hold a “Careers in Energy” Panel, moderated by Commissioner Katie Zerfuss. ? The panel featured insights into the multitude of career paths in the energy and utility industry along with emerging technologies and trends for career readiness. ? Commissioner Zerfuss also toured the Energy Innovation Center, highlighting the partnership between University of Pittsburgh and DLC in understanding new technologies and modernizing the grid for the future. ?
