The Master of Business Creation (MBC) is a professional-degree program for serious entrepreneurs committed to growing their startup company. The program features innovative, application-focused curriculum and access to mentoring, grants, and scholarships. The program is offered at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business by the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy in partnership with the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. Together, they provide an entrepreneur program ranked among the top 10 in the nation. The MBC degree has courses, workshops, and labs specifically designed for aspiring entrepreneurs building and scaling their business. The program is available in two formats – an in-person, full-time, 9-month option or an online, part-time, 14-month option. In both options, founders work to grow their companies, take entrepreneurially focused classes, engage in practicum labs, and receive personalized support. Faculty and mentors in the program are leading scholars and experienced entrepreneurs who can provide detailed insight into all stages of the entrepreneurial process.

It was a special opportunity for me to travel to Ghana, Africa, this past week and meet up with the amazing founders that we recruited for our inaugural expansion of the Master of Business Creation (MBC), our accelerator + graduate degree, at the University of Utah - David Eccles School of Business. 10 of our 20 companies recruited in Africa were able to attend this join up with our regional directors and some of our facilitators (instructors) and mentors. We visited some founder businesses, celebrated the end of our first semester, did some team building and participated in the 10th anniversary of Ensign Global College, our partners on the continent to execute our program. I was impressed with these Founders through the application process, but even more impressed as I met them in person and felt the energy in Africa with the amazing entrepreneurs that are changing the continent. Our Founders lead product, software, education, agriculture and social impact companies. As a co-founding faculty member of this program in 2018, it was a humbling moment for me to see the expansion from our original in-person US cohort to multiple cohorts and launch of an online program in the US and now our expansion to our first international region. We also just announced expansion to Canada. More regions to come. We also had the chance to meet leaders from the region that are making a huge impact. We met with Somachi Chris-Asoluka, CEO of the The Tony Elumelu Foundation doing amazing work with early stage entrepreneurs across Africa. Thanks to Gabrielle Daines Gay and Stephen Alder for the introduction. So impressed with the work of Bob Gay and Lynette Gay with Ensign Global College. Very proud of what we have accomplished so far and we are just beginning. Thanks to my colleagues who have helped us get to this point: Troy D'Ambrosio, Paul Brown, Taft Price, Jack Brittain, Lyda Bigelow, Todd Zenger. And thanks to Pierre Lassonde who inspired this journey and University of Utah President, Taylor Randall, for his vision and support.
