Centering the voices & lived experiences of BIPOC people to drive policy change & transform local systems of power.

关于我们

ECCHO is a civic engagement training program that seeks to improve community health outcomes by engaging those most impacted by generational and systemic racism in Dane, Milwaukee, and Rock county. Our Dane County program is bilingual in Spanish and is referred to as Empoderando a Comunidades para Cambiar y Optimizar la salud (ECCOS). During a 9 month training program, participants work together as a cohort to design and implement a community-based project that meets the health and civic health needs of their community. Each cohort is overseen by a Local Program Coordinator who compensates participants for their work and provides them with the training and resources they need to successfully implement their project, drive policy change, and transform local systems of power. ECCHO is committed to community-based leadership and decision-making that centers the views and experiences of those most affected by the issue. By investing in and lifting-up those most negatively impacted by generational and systemic racism in our state, ECCHO aims to transform local systems of power and improve health outcomes. To ensure the program remains in alignment with our values, the following practices have been incorporated into the administration, structure, and curriculum of the program: - Anti-oppression practices - Empowerment practices - Social justice oriented practices - Community-based participatory research practices - Radical imagination

  • On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, ECCHO honors the lives lost to anti-transgender violence and stands in solidarity with Wisconsin’s transgender community. At ECCHO, we are committed to improving community health outcomes by addressing systemic injustices and centering the voices of those most impacted. We seek to build a future where equity, justice, and safety are the foundation of every community. Inclusion of transgender individuals is vital to this work. Expecially for black trans women, who face heightened anti-transgender violence as compared to their peers. In 2024, in Milwaukee alone, 3 transgender women were killed in a span of 9 months.? #saytheirnames We honor:? Cashay Henderson Regina Allen Dee Dee Watters? & Countless more who have lost in lives in #milwaukee, #wisconsin, & beyond to anti-transgender violence - Today & Everyday. #TDOR #TransgenderDayOfRemembrance #CivicEngagement #WisconsinPride #LGBTQWisconsin #CommunityHealth #SocialChange #TransRightsAreHumanRights?

We want to live in a world where trans people are able to be fully celebrated in life and remembered for our joy and not just our deaths. We have the right to be ourselves, openly and safely — today and every day.

Even when you brace for impact, it doesn’t make the reality any less heavy. This is not a time to jump into action, it is not the time to ask more from those who’ve given everything to steer us toward progress. This is a time for grief. For deep breaths, safe spaces, and the simple act of holding each other. This country’s flaws are deep, and the weight is real. But through it all, we remain. We’ll rise when we’re ready, on our own terms, for our communities and for ourselves. If you are looking for initiatives to support. My Burn The Cape Support Group offers 10 weeks of free sessions to Black women. I developed the curriculum that this group runs on to prioritize a different theme that contributes to the health disparities and racism related stress that Black women combat. The topics are stereotypes, weathering, resistance fatigue, burnout; medical invalidation, self silencing, and lack self care and compassion. Each week we have an education piece, discussion and sharing, a therapeutic exercise, and sharing coping skills to address the topic. The women also received a journal to accompany the group which I also developed. The group is completely virtually so we are able to serve Black women nationwide. We are currently supported only by donations so please donate. If you have want to be added to the next cohort please email. If you are a prospective sponsor please contact me. https://lnkd.in/dncZQrsy
