  • Most Career Coaches advise you to "Find Your Passion and the company that supports that Career Path..." ...and most of that advice is a load of bullsh*t Over 850 of my clients achieved successful career transitions over the last 20 years Here are some learnings from the trenches **What You've Been Told:** - Follow your passion no matter the cost - Take the first job that comes your way - You can only find success in corporate jobs - Make a lot of money, and then everything will be fine - Job search process is the same as it was ten years ago (heck, it's not the same as it was 10 MONTHS ago) -------------------- **What Actually Happens:** - Misplaced passion can lead to burnout if not aligned with skills and interests (and being challenged on a regular basis) - Just needing a job can lead to dissatisfaction - Many find more fulfillment in unconventional careers - Money alone doesn’t ensure happiness - Job searching methods have (drastically) changed over time - the Great Recession, the 2014 hiccup, the 2017 hiccup, COVID, Post COVID RTOs, etc.) - the general increase in the number of advertising and marketing messages we are hit by every day -------------------- **What you should do instead:** [Identify and document Your Skills and Interests] Reality: Many people jump into roles that don’t fit their strengths or personality Action: Take time to explore different fields that ignite your interest - and don't forget transferrable skills [Research Your Desired Industry] Reality: Guessing what you’re good at often leads to wrong choices Action: Conduct informational interviews and network intentionally and intelligently within your area of interest [Consider Hiring a Career Coach] Reality: Many people attempt to navigate career changes alone Action: Work with a coach to help align your goals with your strengths [Customize Your Job Search] Reality: Generic resumes rarely get noticed by employers (and they get between 500 and 13,000 of them to sift through) Action: Craft a specific message about your skills for each application [Be Open to Unconventional Paths] Reality: The traditional corporate path isn’t the only route to succes Action: Explore freelance, consulting, or entrepreneurship opportunities that align with your passion Track EVERYTHING. The time between interviews and offers has increased significantly recently, and you need to know which resume you used, what does the job description say? What are my 3 strongest points in my favor? So many other great questions you need to ask yourself...

  • Career fulfillment isn't just about job titles - it's about finding alignment between your passions and your professional life Over 85% of people are unhappy in their jobs right now? It's called the "Great Detachment" Career satisfaction is often talked about, but rarely understood in depth If you want to really get it, start with these activities 1) Clarify Your Passion: - Think about what truly excites you about your work - Maybe it's helping others, solving problems, or being creative - Gather Insights from past colleagues, managers, customers, even vendors - Attempt to gather your past HR folders so you can review projects you may have forgotten about - Look at job boards or professional networking platforms 2) What's the buzz about career transitions in your field? 3) Define Your Focus - Pin down the key aspects that contribute to a fulfilling career position - What draws you personally to the idea of changing or advancing in your career? 4) Take the Initial Step: - Begin with small, actionable steps towards your ideal career - Collect inspiring ideas or data from mentors and industry leaders -Track EVERYTHING 5) Evaluate and Adapt: - Post-activity, consider what you enjoyed and what didn’t resonate with you - Plan to incorporate more of what you loved into your career journey - Document the SAR/RAS stories for your career so you can create powerful messaging and documents Go beyond the surface of your career Take control today and explore the possibilities ahead! Thanks again to Steve Ramona for hosting me recently on the "Doing Business with a Servant's Heart" podcast. This content is from that interview

  • https://lnkd.in/gAxRwAwC ------------- Don found an interesting blog post from Zapier concerning 50 companies hiring WFH... Most are in technology in some way, but that shouldn't be a major surprise.

  • A few Empowerment Mantras: ?? Focus on Your Strengths ?? Embrace Change (I see you, Steve Ramona ;) ) ?? & Follow Your Passion I know I have a few more, but these are definitely top of mind right now Let's be honest, the last few years have been challenging for working professionals - Emotional highs - Frustrating lows - Ghosting (both ways) - Uncertainty in the macroeconomy Channels that used to **drive engagement** (aka drive productivity) - just don't anymore At least not in the same way, and with the same impact You need to make sure you strategically allocate resources to always be moving forward - and hopefully finding that next big win ???? Networking ???? Skill Development/Upskilling (especially in AI topics and business usage) ???? Open Communication ???? Personal Growth ???? Continuous Improvement ???????? ?????? ???????? ??????????????? In your career or otherwise - drop your thoughts in the comment section below Recently I was interviewed by @Steve Ramona for his "Doing Business with a Servant's Heart" podcast -- the next few posts will include that interview sliced up into bite-sized chunks

  • 10,000 people want to talk to you today Yes - I said that right - 10,000 people want to speak with you today (and every day going forward) Huh? In the US, we’re being hit by over 10,000 advertising and marketing messages a day – every day. (By way of comparison, that number was “only” 4,000 right before COVID. Going back further; in the ‘70s, it was about 500) We've become very adept at tuning almost all of these messages out So how does this impact your job search? How do you stand out from all that noise? Especially when you’re trying to tell the UVPs within the arc of your entire professional career… Oh – and you have to tell that story in a manner that gets me to stop whatever I’m doing… start listening to you… and then you have to make me care about your message Now, add to that reality: the higher up the corporate ladder you go, the fewer seats there are Given all that, you need powerful, cogent stories that illuminate the quantified outcomes you’ve generated over the course of your career.

  • 1) 7.7 million positions reported as available last month 2) Up to 13,000 resumes submitted for each open role (at a popular company) - 500-5,000 for others 3) Add to that, the fact that in the US, we are bombarded by over 10,000 random marketing/advertising messages Every. Single. Day. When you're in job search, you can see how this will negatively impact your candidacy for open roles The challenge becomes how do I stand out - especially considering that second fact The answer is with quantified results you've generated over the course of your career, and wrapping those facts inside a powerful story Then relating that story quickly and powerfully How do you feel about the stories you tell?
