    It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of EBONY owner Ulysses “Junior” Bridgeman, a remarkable husband, father, businessman, former NBA player, and a true pioneer of financial wisdom and success. Drafted eighth overall in the first round of the 1975 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, Bridgeman was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in an all-star deal that included Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Known as one of the top sixth men in the league, Bridgeman played 12 NBA seasons, primarily with the Bucks. After retiring in 1987, he invested in Wendy’s, eventually growing his franchise portfolio to 525 restaurants including Wendy’s, Chili’s, Fazoli’s. In 2016, he sold half his restaurants and acquired Heartland, a Coca-Cola bottling company, later expanding into Canada. A man of great faith, his company, Manna, became a symbol of his dedication to integrity, generosity, and service. Perhaps one of his most notable contributions was facilitating the revival of EBONY and JET Magazines in 2021, rescuing the storied publication from bankruptcy and giving it new life. While he played a key role in securing their future, it was his daughter Eden who took the helm, guiding the brand’s evolution. His commitment to ensuring the legacy of EBONY — a voice for Black culture and empowerment — further exemplifies his extraordinary drive to make a difference in all areas of life. Mr. Bridgeman was a man of deep faith, guided by his unwavering belief in God. His journey was a testament to hard work, dedication and an unwavering commitment to creating generational wealth. He leaves behind a devoted wife, two sons, a daughter, six grandchildren and an extended family as well as a lasting legacy as a businessman, mentor, and philanthropist who proved that success is built not just in the game but in life’s investments – most importantly, investing in people. Rest in peace, Junior. Your legacy is timeless. #JuniorBridgeman

Through intimate on-camera interviews and stunning photography, we showcased the design inspirations, home entertaining tips, and personal stories of our featured talent. A key moment of the series included the talent taking a well-deserved break to Take a Break with Diet Coke while preparing to host friends and family.     Earlier in the year, EBONY partnered with a client to launch “Unmasked”, a three-part video series focused on raising awareness of Hydradenitis Suppurativa (HS) within the Black community. Through powerful, authentic stories, the series spotlighted individuals overcoming HS, highlighting their strength, advocacy, and support networks. This partnership not only brought visibility to a largely overlooked condition but also reinforced our client's commitment to education and empowerment. As we reflect on this impactful collaboration, we look forward to continuing to amplify voices and create meaningful change in the year ahead.

    Over the summer, EBONY teamed up with DoorDash to help elevate our hosting skills with the Summer Entertainment Guide. In collaboration with Chef Jasmine Camble, we created a seamless experience that allowed our audience to effortlessly plan and host memorable gatherings, with all the ingredients delivered directly to their door.     This past fall, EBONY proudly launched its inaugural college campus takeover: the 2024 EBONY HBCU Yard Fest. We brought together students from the Atlanta University Center for a dynamic celebration at Morehouse College, featuring live music performances in partnership with 300 Entertainment, exciting games, friendly competitions, special guest appearances, and exclusive giveaways. In collaboration with Wells Fargo, we also hosted a live recording of the Funky Friday podcast, where former NFL quarterback Cam Newton led an insightful conversation on financial literacy for Black students. Joined by EBONY and JET CEO, Eden Bridgeman Sklenar, the discussion highlighted the importance of financial empowerment within the Black community.
