Yesterday,?Enlit Europe?on the Road ??visited our coordinator, ETRA, to record a podcast about EBENTO project, the #HorizonEU project revolutionizing energy efficiency in residential buildings. Alejandra del Valle??? , EBENTO’s project coordinator, shared insights on how the project is making renovations more affordable, citizen-centric, and efficient. Through its one-stop-shop platform, EBENTO simplifies refurbishment projects' design and follow-up phases, helping homeowners, energy service companies, and stakeholders work together seamlessly. It also tackles key challenges like the complexity of Energy Performance Contracts (EnPCs) by offering tools to manage energy efficiency guarantees and agreements. ?? In Valencia, the pilot site (led by Fundació València Clima i Energia) focuses on comfort monitoring using humidity and temperature sensors, while also enabling homeowners to track energy consumption, even without smart meters! By providing practical solutions and financial mechanisms, EBENTO is empowering citizens to take part in the energy transition and improve living conditions in their homes. The EBENTO project? DSS4Ren (Renovation Decision Support) component is officially finalized, marking a significant step forward in data-driven sustainable renovations! ????? To showcase its capabilities, we’re sharing results from one of our pilot buildings in Valencia. With DSS4Ren, we can now evaluate and compare baseline and renovation scenarios using key performance indicators such as: ? Total primary energy consumption ? Heating & cooling energy demand ? Electricity load profile & peak electricity load This advancement enhances data-driven decision-making in building renovations ???, ensuring optimized energy performance and sustainability.? And there’s more! Our One-Stop-Shop (OSS) tool is now ready and available for testing across our pilot sites. ???Lean Construction & Sustainability: Where Are We Now?? Over the past decade, the construction industry has increasingly explored how Lean Construction can contribute to sustainability. With a growing number of systematic literature reviews on this topic, what have we learned, and where are the gaps? This study, conducted as part of the EBENTO project?and published by its partner TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, critically evaluates these literature syntheses and highlights key findings: ? There is a strong conceptual framework linking lean principles to sustainability. ? Yet, certain lean methods—like Target Value Design and Takt Production—have not received the same level of attention as others. ? Future research must address these gaps to unlock Lean’s full potential for sustainable construction. This study provides a roadmap for future research and a framework for better understanding Lean’s contributions to sustainability. What’s your take? Our Carbon Co-op?team visited the pilot site Manchester: the Levenshulme Area-Based Retrofit Scheme. This site is testing the savings and benefits of a street-by-street approach to home retrofits while providing householders with significant energy efficiency improvements. ?????The site visit provided practical insights that will directly benefit the EBENTO project, which aims to develop an integrated platform for managing Energy Performance Contracts (EnPCs). ??Real-world challenges like supply chain delays and quality assurance issues highlighted the complexities of retrofitting. However, the ??collaborative approach between Carbon Co-op, B4Box (construction contractor), and the architectural team showcased effective solutions and the power of community engagement. These lessons are invaluable for EBENTO ?? as we work on refining business models, enhancing monitoring tools, and improving stakeholder coordination. Levenshulme’s success story is paving the way for enhancing energy efficiency in buildings.
