In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Eastman leaders have stepped up to ensure the safety and well-being of our team members and their families. When DMT-Glycol leaders heard stories about the widespread destruction across northeast Tennessee following Hurricane Helene, they quickly mobilized to provide support. Their first step was ensuring appropriate staff levels on site. With this in place, they began flexing schedules to allow team members to volunteer when and where it was needed most. They started by supporting their colleagues who had been directly impacted by the hurricane and the flooding that followed. They soon connected with one of their own, Randy Burgin, a maintenance coordinator at Eastman’s Kingsport site. Randy’s father and grandmother were stranded at home in Newland, North Carolina, near Roan Mountain. Their road had been washed away, and they had no way in or out. In true Eastman spirit, Randy’s work family volunteered to help he and his son build a temporary road, ensuring his family had access to essential supplies. The team worked the rugged terrain with shovels and chainsaws to clear a path. They removed trees, dug out roots, moved boulders and fortified edges with trees and rocks. Before they were finished, a side by side came through carrying diapers, formula and other essentials for a family that lives just down the road. “The main road won’t be repaired for months, but at least they now have access to essential supplies like food, water and fuel,” said John Frady, area manager, Glycols. “It was a team effort; operations and engineers on site added tasks to their already heavy workload without any complaint to give us the bandwidth to do this.” The team continues to collect donations and make supply runs, delivering blankets and quilts as cold weather approaches. When Eastman team members in St. Gabriel, La., heard about the devastating floods in northeast Tennessee, they knew they had to help. Not only was it the location of their company’s headquarters, but it was home to many of their team members. Being in Louisiana, they did one of the things they know best—cooked up some jambalaya. Sales from the savory dish raised money for the disaster relief effort in the mountains of northeast Tennessee. When Eastman Emergency Services received a call for assistance from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (EMA) – Region 1 the day after Hurricane Helene, they immediately took action. EMA officials needed help transporting 56 patients from nearby Greeneville, Tenn., to other healthcare facilities in the region. Flooding from the hurricane had caused a water system failure in Greeneville, leaving the hospital with limited ability to provide essential services to its patients. Dave Kindle, fire captain with Eastman Emergency Services, secured two rental vehicles through Fleet Services. He then reached out to off-shift team members to solicit their help. When the team arrived in Greeneville, they began staging ambulances and ICU patients and tended to patient needs as they awaited transport. Once all the critical patients were loaded into the ambulances, the Eastman team transported the non-critical patients to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. The team was honored to help and stands ready to help their regional emergency response partners if the need arises. #TheHEARTofEastman #HurricaneHeleneRelief

Relief efforts after catastrophic events like Hurricane Helene are hard for first responders, but they’re especially hard?if you’re sleeping in your car after an hours-long, emotionally and physically draining day performing search and rescue. When Whitney Holt, Eastman’s Global Public and Community Affairs, learned of this need through Carter County Emergency Management leaders, she quickly went to Willie Frye in Eastman Procurement to purchase more than 100 air mattresses for them to have. #TheHEARTofEastman #HurricaneHeleneRelief
