Easterseals SoCal proudly joined The California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ)’s 2025 Roots of Justice Convening on February 28th in Long Beach. With over 350 community members, we came together to engage in meaningful dialogue, learning, and reflection. From thought-provoking workshops to powerful conversations, we explored building bridges through disability justice, empathy, allyship, and more. It was a great day of collaboration and inspiration towards a more inclusive, equitable future! #RootsOfJustice #StrongerTogether

Medicaid funding supports individuals with I/DD in achieving independence. Temporary federal investments into Medicaid Home & Community Based Services (HCBS) authorized through the American Rescue Plan Act were used by every state and the District of Columbia. This investment supported service providers to strengthen their workforce. Data from ANCOR American Network of Community Options and Resources' research demonstrates that, during this time period, fewer providers indicated they were closing programs or services. In 2022, 63% of survey respondents reported closing programs or services but that figure dropped to 44% in 2023 and 39% in 2024. Medicaid operates as a partnership between states and the federal government to fund crucial health care services. In California its called Medi-Cal. When federal Medicaid funding is reduced, states must find new funding to balance the shortfall in state budgets. If new funding cannot be found, community-based services for people with I/DD are often reduced, leading to longer waitlists or no services at all. To keep the promise of community living for people with I/DD a reality, we must invest in—not divest from—the Medicaid program. March is Women's History Month. This year's theme, shared by the National Women's History Alliance, is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations." Today, on the second anniversary of her passing, we recognize Disability Rights pioneer Judith (Judy) Heumann, for all that she achieved in educating and inspiring the nation on behalf of the disability community, resulting in the eventual passing of the ADA. Judy personified this year's theme, and we honor her resilience, courage, and achievements along with the women shaping history today. Help us celebrate the powerful influence of women, like Judy, who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership and share their names In the comments below. #WomensHistoryMonth
