As seen at ProMat 2025 this week. The trade organization, MHI: The Association That Makes Supply Chains Work (which is celebrating their 80th anniversary this year) created the National Material Handling Show in 1948. The show was renamed ProMat in 1985 and has grown to become our industry's signature event. It's held every other year. ProMat 2025, which just concluded, drew well in excess of 50,000 attendees. Visitors had access to more than 1,200 exhibits showcasing the latest products and technology including lift trucks, automated guided vehicles, robots and autonomous mobile robots, hoists & cranes, racking & shelving, forklift attachments, wire partition products, guarding equipment, loading dock equipment, automated storage & retrieval systems, bar coding, radio frequency directed technology, smart conveyor & sortation systems, smart cranes & monorail, sophisticated packaging techniques, and much more. The overall mood of the show was one of optimism. MHI states: according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Commerce and Bureau of Labor Statistics, material handling and logistics is one of America's largest and fastest growing industries. In fact, it's a "mega industry"—the consumption of material handling and logistics equipment and systems in America exceeds $156 billion per year, and producers employ in excess of 700,000 workers.
