EIF ?? farmers—that's why this National Ag Day, we're advocating for an appropriation of $2.5 million in the fiscal year 2026 state budget for the Farm to Food Bank program (HB2879). Since being signed into law in 2023, Farm to Food Bank has supported low-income families and the Illinois agricultural economy alike by increasing the supply of fresh and nutritious food, reducing food waste, and expanding opportunities for Illinois farmers. The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced that the Local Food Purchase Assistance program (LFPA) has been suspended after federal funding was cut. EIF has not relied on this program as a long-term resource, and we are grateful for the impact it has had in providing high-quality protein to our neighbors experiencing hunger. While this change will affect what is served on our Foodmobile routes, our priority continues to be providing nutritious groceries to the communities we serve. As the growing season approaches, we will strive to offer more fresh produce on the Foodmobile. As EIF works to meet a historic need for food assistance, we too are impacted by factors such as rising costs and food shortages.
