Prior to becoming the Division Chief of Training, Chief Wilson was a district Lieutenant and was highly respected by his peers and appreciated by everyone in the department because of the way he supports our firefighters and the passion he has for training and mentoring. As a point of reference, Chief Wilson mentored more drivers and lieutenants that have been promoted in this department under his leadership than any other Lieutenant in department history! Chief Wilson joined the East Lake Tarpon Special Fire Control District as a firefighter in 2004 after working as a firefighter for the City of New Port Richey for two years. During his 20-year career with the department he’s also held the titles of Driver-Engineer and Lieutenant. Chief Wilson is a Florida State Certified Firefighter and Florida Health Department-certified Paramedic having completed training through Hillsborough Community College in 2001. He also studied education at Saint Leo College and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1996. He is a member of the Pinellas County Training Group and the Florida Fire Chief’s Association. Chief Wilson will assume a critical leadership role as the department training officer, ensuring members are trained in ISO; the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards; OSHA; and NFPA standards and regulations. “We are extremely proud of the professional men and women that serve our community, and we are looking forward to the new leadership that Chief Wilson will bring to the training division to continue our district mission in the East Lake Community” said Chief Gennaro. Chief Wilson participated in the oath of office ceremony where he raised his hand and swore to do the right thing for the right reasons as a Division Chief of Training at the August 27th, 2024, Fire Commission Meeting with his wife Carrie of 24 years supporting him.

This morning, Division Chief Lane and the 57 A-Shift Crew- LT Jackson, FF Owens, & FF Buell, conducted Triage Training for East Lake CERT (??ommunity ??mergency ??esponse ??eam) volunteer members. Our crew trained EL CERT various ways to be prepared if they ever encounter a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). EL CERT partners with our department and others during disasters and incidents like hurricanes. They also assist with safety measures for public events like our Open House and Hose-Down. We are VERY GRATEFUL for EL CERT's assistance whenever we need them! CERT programs nationwide educate volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live- training basic disaster response skills like fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
