关于我们

For more than 20 years, East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE) has been advancing economic and racial justice by building an inclusive economy in the East Bay based on good jobs and healthy communities. EBASE addresses the root causes of injustice, including white supremacy and corporate control, by developing strategic alliances among residents, workers, and people of faith to build power and win systemic change. EBASE develops leadership and capacity of Black and Brown communities, low wage workers, and tenants through our campaigns. EBASE comprises a team of committed and seasoned staff, and an engaged board committed to a bold vision of economic and racial justice and a transformational approach to organizing that creates strong solidarity among people of color, women, immigrants, and queer folks. EBASE is a founding member of the PowerSwitch Action national network, Oakland Rising, and Lift Up Contra Costa.

  • Last week, EBASE hosted a funder learning session at East Bay Community Foundation's beautiful space to share our vision of a world where all jobs have dignity, where housing is a human right, and where workers, tenants, and BIPOC communities have decision making power. We know that although the landscape will continue to change and challenges will continue to come our way, if we stay rooted in hope and connected to each other, we will continue working tenaciously towards this vision. Many thanks to our cohosts, The California Endowment, Walter & Elise Haas Fund, East Bay Community Foundation, and San Francisco Foundation. EBASE's long-term agenda embodies the values and aspirations that we seek to create in the world. As an anchor organization, we are seasoned at building power through base building and coalition building among workers, tenants, and BIPOC communities, and we have a track record of winning and seeing through our wins.? In our 10-year plan, EBASE will take on fights that are building blocks toward our far-reaching vision of a Thriving East Bay along three strategic pathways: Housing Is A Human Right, Worker Power & Liberation, and Community Governance. Our wins will bring decision-making power and wealth to workers, tenants, and BIPOC communities for the next fifty years. We see the work to achieve structural transformation along these pathways as stretching out over time, across generations. As Martin Luther King, Jr., said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” EBASE’s long-term agenda is a part of that long arc, stretching toward a vision of a flourishing East Bay.

  • Our long-term agenda lays out three pathways that EBASE will follow to realize our transformative vision: Housing is a Human Right, Worker Power & Liberation, and Community Governance. Our pathways will weave together and overlap over time to reflect the intersectionality of these issues in the lives of East Bay residents. In our journey, we will rely on our strategies, values, and commitments to guide and orient us. We know the fights we take on and the power we build today will be the stepping stones for structural transformation in this multigenerational journey toward justice and liberation. Executive Director at East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE)

This summer, the EBASE team gathered for a mid-year retreat. We reflected on the highs and lows. The pathway to justice and liberation is not a straight line. Through all the unexpected curveballs, this team has embodied hope and tenacity, two values that undergird EBASE’s ten year long term agenda. I’m inspired by how our team continues to grow and evolve while caring for each other and being super impactful in our work. East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy

  • EBASE's faith-rooted arm, the Faith Alliance for a Moral Economy, hosted a two-day training on Faith-Rooted Organizing last week to bring our community together and learn about the role of interfaith organizing in movement spaces, and how we can bring faith-rooted wisdom and expertise to these spaces. Our panel of faith leaders on Friday night discussed the importance of the faith community getting involved with organizing and policy advocacy, and the changes we need to see for that to become more common. Saturday brought us a full-day training, which spotlighted some amazing local artivists, community-based organizations, and faith leaders. We concluded the day by? sharing EBASE’s long-term agenda and the role faith organizing will play in it. A huge thank you to all those who joined us, contributed their wisdom and talents, and made this event a success!

  • We loved hosting EBASE’s Board of Directors at our new Concord office site last week. We held an engaging, in-depth session for the board to learn about our housing justice work in Contra Costa County from our Contra Costa, Communications, and Civic Engagement team members. We celebrated victories, discussed challenges, and centered EBASE’s upcoming Long-Term Agenda to develop a holistic understanding of the interconnectedness of EBASE’s work towards a Just East Bay. We’re lucky to have such an engaged Board and Staff, and we look forward to hosting more sessions like this one about other aspects of our work and LTA!?

“This is a way to prevent homelessness... It’s going to have a big impact for all families and people in Concord.”?- Betty Gabaldon, tenants rights organizer with?the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy. EBASE continues to fight alongside tenants against landlords in Concord. A recent attempt by landlords to kill a rent protection ordinance failed. The ordinance?reduces the annual percentage by which landlords can raise rent in Concord and bolsters certain eviction protections. https://lnkd.in/guCUsUYF
