A proposed plan would let some industries bypass full environmental review in Imperial Valley, California. This plan was a chance to encourage responsible, well-regulated lithium extraction that could benefit residents, the economy, and the climate. Comite Civico Del Valle, Inc. and Earthworks have filed an appeal challenging the approval of the Controlled Thermal Resources Hell’s Kitchen Lithium Project, near the Salton Sea in California’s Imperial Valley. Earthworks and CCV want to see this project succeed with protections for public health and the environment, strong community benefits, and respect for tribal rights.
