Advancing interspecies understanding requires more than just research—it requires a broader vision as to how our scientific work will have impact. Last week, we shared the very first look at Earth Species Project’s evolving strategy, an update that marks an important step in how we’re thinking about our work, and where we’re headed. If you missed it, catch up below and be sure to to join our mailing list to get all of our future updates: https://lnkd.in/eh9ajERW??

AI to advance our understanding of animal communication.
关于我们
Earth Species Project (ESP) is a non-profit research lab and impact organization focused on using artificial intelligence to advance our understanding of animal communication, and ultimately to decode non-human languages. We believe AI has the potential to transform the way we perceive the world around us, expanding the ability of human beings to learn from other species. Our hope is that this will make a significant contribution to altering human perspective on how we relate to the rest of nature.

We're welcoming new faces, Emmanuel Chemla, Gagan Narula, Matthieu Geist & Milad Alizadeh to our research team, led by Olivier Pietquin who has officially joined ESP full-time as Chief Scientist! This growth marks an important milestone in accelerating ESP’s research and bringing us closer to our vision of interspecies understanding ???? These new members of the team are already working on scaling our models, building out our data infrastructure, and contributing to our decode projects. You'll see more of their work very soon – stay tuned! ? Learn more about our work: https://lnkd.in/gUs4D3Vx

The 2025 BirdCLEF+ competition is now open! ???? ESP is proud to support a key dataset for this year’s challenge, which focuses on under-studied birds, amphibians, mammals, and insects from the Middle Magdalena Valley of Colombia. This work was funded by FootPrint Coalition's Science Engine grant, hosted by Experiment.com. Two of our researchers Maddie Cusimano and Sara Keen oversaw the administration of the grant. To truly protect nature, we must first rethink our connection to it. In her recent feature with Chatham House Environment and Society, ESP’s Director of Impact, Jane Lawton, shared how AI is helping us unlock new ways to understand other species—and why shifting our perspective is key to building a regenerative future. ??? Have you ever wondered what birds are saying to each other in the morning chorus? Or what whales are trying to communicate with their songs? That's exactly what Jane Lawton and her colleagues at Earth Species Project are trying to figure out. ??They're using AI to decode animal communication with the ultimate goal of changing the way human beings relate to the rest of nature. Continuing our series of interviews with leaders in their respective fields of the climate and nature transition, this month the Sustainability Accelerator sat down with Jane to find out more about her work. ?? https://lnkd.in/eduDEC-F
