As we mark International Women’s Day, EarthRights celebrates women leading change in communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis. We stand in solidarity with these brave individuals, who refuse to have their voices silenced as they face the wrath of corporate power and inept governments.

The Indigenous communities of Mae La Noi District in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand, along with partners, gathered yesterday to commemorate the third anniversary of their struggle against a proposed fluorite mine in their area. The fluorite mine threatens communities, putting their water sources, livelihoods, and overall well-being at risk. Contaminants from mining operations would pollute the Mae La River, a crucial water source, leading to environmental, economic, and social harm. The event highlighted cultural performances, a protest march, and panel discussions. We greatly appreciate the resilience of the Mae La Noi communities and the support from partners, allies, and the media. #MaeLaNoiMovement #StopFluoriteMining #SaveMaeLaRiver . ?? Indigenous communities in northern Thailand are facing environmental and health crises. The Lua and Karen peoples are dealing with air and water pollution, which is causing health issues and food insecurity—problems arising from mining projects. At EarthRights, we believe that the right to health is inseparable from the right to a safe and sustainable environment. We submitted our statement to the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, urging attention and action to protect Indigenous communities from harmful development projects. ?? Join us in amplifying the call to uphold the principle that health is a fundamental human right. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ghqsRqce

Boulder County and the City of Boulder argued before the Colorado Supreme Court that Exxon and others should be held responsible for knowingly harming the community through their climate deception. EarthRights has been a part of the legal team representing the plaintiffs since 2018. #climateaccountability

EarthRights International has long stood with communities fighting against powerful interests that prioritize profit over people. We have taken on corporate polluters, held governments and international institutions accountable for human rights abuses, and represented environmental defenders facing criminalization and violence. This moment demands an even stronger response.
