In the parallel session on "The Decade of Science for Sustainability," IUPAP presented the The Earth-Humanity Coalition, established in April 2024 in response to a call from the United Nations General Assembly. ?? Dans un article de The Earth-Humanity Coalition, Bertrand Jouve, coordinateur scientifique du projet TIRIS, détaille la stratégie de Science avec et pour la société du site toulousain et les actions concrètes mises en oeuvre. ??????Points clés de cette politique Science - société : ???Depuis 2023, l'Université de Toulouse met en ?uvre l'Initiative TIRIS - Université de Toulouse, dont 4% du budget est dédié au développement des interactions entre toutes les sciences et la société. 1?? Appel à projets Co-recherches, volet Incubation réunissant des experts de la société civile, du monde extra-universitaire et du monde académique. 21 projets ont été soumis et, 8 d'entre eux seront soutenus (budget max 10k€) 2?? Appel à projets Co-recherches, volet ? consolidation ? réunissant des experts de la société civile, du monde extra-universitaire et du monde académique 5 des 14 projets présentés seront soutenus (budget max 40k€) 3?? Boutique des sciences : L'objectif est de mettre en relation le monde académique et les projets citoyens. Doté de 1,7 million d'€ sur 10 ans, la boutique vise à mettre en oeuvre de nouveaux moyens de susciter la demande des acteurs non académiques, puis d'évaluer le potentiel de développement, afin de les mettre en relation avec des chercheurs qui pourront les aider à développer l'idée. In a world where fragmented logics govern our institutions, from business and finance to government and academia, the need for a unified approach has never been more urgent. This new article "Science for a Second Chance on Earth?" from Carlos Alvarez Pereira, Secretary General of The Club of Rome and member of the Steering Committee of The Earth-Humanity Coalition (EHC), explores the paradox facing science today. While science has unveiled the existential threats we face, climate change, biodiversity loss, social fractures, it often operates within its own bubble, driven by hyper-specialisation and a cycle of publications and grants. Alvarez questions whether this approach is sufficient to serve societal purposes in the 21st century. Alvarez also challenges us to rethink the role of science, advocating for a dramatic shift towards mobilising scientific capacities in the service of people and the planet. He highlights the necessity for science to reinvent itself by respecting the sovereignty of people, co-creating responses to challenges, and weaving together knowledge from multiple disciplines and sectors. Discover how the Earth-Humanity Coalition aims to create momentum for this new kind of science to become mainstream, aligning with the ambitions of the UN Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development 2024-2033. The objective of this special session was to explore the integration of natural, social sciences with humanities and indigenous knowledge in addressing sustainable development challenges and to foster a transdisciplinary dialogue among experts from various fields.
