Our 101st Green Dining Alliance certified restaurant is here: Madrina! ?????? Madrina, a stunning new addition to Webster Groves, has earned a 5-star sustainability rating for its dedication to thoughtful sourcing, waste reduction, and timeless hospitality. Co-owned by couples and longtime friends Frank Romano & Laura Burns (of The Parkmoor Drive-In) and Stanley & Arlene Browne (of Robust Bistro & Wine Bar), Madrina brings a fresh, farm-to-table take on Italian-American cuisine to the neighborhood. Their commitment to sustainability is woven into everything they do—using local beef from Ruth Family Farm, poultry and eggs from Buttonwood Farm, and dairy from Rolling Lawns Farm as well as handmade pastas! Their nose-to-tail, zero-waste cooking ensures vegetable scraps are repurposed into soups for the staff, so that food is used to its fullest and waste is minimal. ?? Step inside, and you’ll find a warm, mid-century-inspired space with lush velvet drapes, rich wood tones, and an award-winning beverage program that elevates the dining experience. Nestled in the heart of Webster’s blossoming Green Dining District, Madrina is helping to make sustainable dining the standard in St. Louis. We’re so excited to welcome Madrina to the GDA family—stop by for an unforgettable meal that’s as mindful as it is delicious! ??

We just hit 100 Green Dining Alliance certified members!!! ?? What a milestone! It’s been a long journey for us since the devastating impact of COVID-19 on local restaurants - but our members, new and old, have shown unwavering resilience in their commitment to sustainability. Through it all, they managed to continue to source local and organic ingredients, choose sustainable tableware, minimize waste, educate customers, and so much more for the future of our planet. We can’t thank every member enough for being part of the GDA family! It’s hard to believe our program that began in 2012 with 6 flagship members (Picnic Basket Cafe at The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum, Sassafras Cafe at Missouri Botanical Garden, Schlafly Beer - The Saint Louis Brewery?, The Wolf Cafe, Kakao Chocolate, and The Royale) now has 100 certified members in the St. Louis region - one hundred restaurants dedicated to minimizing their carbon footprint! WOW!!! Thank you to all our donors, sponsors, partners, and volunteers for making this possible. We couldn’t have done this without your support! ?? Enjoying this delicious gooey butter cake from member Park Avenue Coffee isn’t the only way we plan to honor this massive milestone. Stay tuned to earthday365 in the coming weeks for some big news (including a giveaway on IG and FB ??)!

No one should be surprised that Neon Greens is now Green Dining Alliance certified! ?????? This innovative salad spot in The Grove easily scored a full 5/5 star rating on our sustainability audit. They grow all their own lettuce right next door in a hydroponic farm built from two transformed shipping containers. Their vertical farm produces an impressive 6,500 pounds of lettuce each year - the equivalent of a three-acre field - while capturing and reusing almost all its water! With zero transportation required and minimal waste, Neon Greens is a shining example of hyper-local, hyper-fresh, sustainable food production - a commitment that earned them a rare 5/5 stars in the Innovation category! ?? Their dedication to sustainability doesn’t stop there. Neon Greens incorporates other green practices like using Energy Star-rated appliances, LED lighting, fully compostable or recyclable packaging, and even Green Seal-certified hand soap. They also avoid offering straws entirely to reduce waste. Clear signage helps customers properly sort waste into compost and recycling bins, and their menu features local delights like Confluence Kombucha, locally brewed cold brew, soups, gluten-free cheesy bread, and seasonal cookies made in-house. Neon Greens is also passionate about building community and sharing knowledge. They host farm tours, workshops, and cooking classes, and often donate a portion of sales to the St. Louis Crisis Nursery. Curious about the farm? Agriculture Manager Olivia Engel is always happy to show you around. We’re so thrilled to welcome Neon Greens to the GDA family! ??
