With all the uncertainty around corporate sustainability regulations, many businesses are returning to a familiar and trusted standard—?????? ??????????????????. ?? ? The main aim of CSRD was to bring sustainability reporting to the same level of financial reporting. But the Omnibus proposal, meant to simplify sustainability regulations, has instead raised concerns. Investors managing €6.6 trillion worry it could weaken EU sustainability disclosures, making it harder to make informed investment decisions and potentially harming economic competitiveness. GRI has been helping companies by providing framework and standards for sustainability reporting since 1997. ? When the European Standards were developed there were a lot of good areas that were borrowed from GRI Standards - like Impact Materiality process and many overlaps with the general and topic disclosures. ???????? ???????????????????? & ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????? While well-intended, CSRD introduced an overwhelming number of data points, making compliance difficult for many companies. With Omnibus raising new questions about CSRD’s scope, companies are now leaning on GRI, which offers a more manageable and established reporting process. ? ???????????? ???????????? ??????????????????????: ?? ???????????????? ???????????????? One aspect that is not fully covered in GRI Standards is 'Financial Materiality'. By combining GRI’s impact materiality with IFRS financial materiality, businesses get a full picture—balancing risks, opportunities, and stakeholder needs for smarter, more sustainable decision-making. ? Hopefully, the Omnibus decision is taken soon, but it’s a relief that companies have not lost momentum towards sustainability reporting.
