ETSU researcher Huang Qian is using generative AI to create a flood dashboard through the ESIP Lab for disaster preparedness in Appalachia. Qian is a current lab PI, former Community Fellow, and all-around ESIP participant. Along with Tao Hu, Qian's work focuses on #GenAI to explore social data + disaster response. In her interview with reporter Jayonna Scurry from WJHL, Qian focuses on the real-world impacts of #EarthScienceData. For all us data nerds, it's easy to get focused on our crucial, deep-dive, sometimes invisible work in semantics, governance frameworks, gridding match-ups, and other technical details. Full article + report: https://lnkd.in/g4bBuQ3y The Understanding Needs to Broaden Outside Use of NASA Data (UNBOUND) project works to connect data end users to NASA Earth science data products, especially communities and groups not regularly using those data. A highlight from this UNBOUND: "The “food-energy-water” (FEW) framework is a holistic view of environmental impacts that affect quality of life.
