Our final GBR Data Ecosystem tidbit has to do with investing. When all the other pieces of the ecosystem are in place, home performance data can play a pivotal role in supporting sustainable investments. With Environmental Social Governance (ESG) playing a bigger and bigger role in investor decision making, easily accessible home performance data can help shape and inform where investments are made. Factoring this data into property values can also make the case for greater investment in properties with performance upgrades. When home performance data is included in real estate listings and factored into property valuations, lenders can use it to inform their lending decisions. They can use the data to measure progress towards goals around supporting sustainability and carbon reduction, or even offer products like green mortgages that provide preferential rates or terms for properties with certain sustainability features.
