Last Sunday, EARLY PR checked off another exciting event on our February #BlackHistoryMonth must-do list! We attended the screening for Imagine Black's Reimagining Public Safety Project for the 2023 short film collection, "BEYOND WALLS." This powerful collection of films amplifies the voices of incarcerated individuals and their families while highlighting the systemic barriers they face. We came together and discussed how restorative practices and community-led initiatives can build safer, more just systems for everyone—not just a select few. This event included a viewing of the film and a brief speakers' panel, providing an opportunity to reflect, engage, and explore the role each of us can play in dismantling the injustices that continue to impact our communities. At EARLY PR, we recently took this concept a step further for our client Williams and Russell CDC by stepping out into the world. We used this backgrounder to take a Portland Business Journal reporter to the site of the future Black Business Hub. This in-person gathering opened the door to a broader view of the land, the surrounding community, and a heartfelt retelling of the community's history before its restructuring. It was an eventful month, but we saw communities come together to provide resources to LA, lean on each other through the inauguration, and celebrate both softness and resilience. EARLY PR hit the ground running this month with an onsite backgrounder with the Portland Business Journal for our clients, Williams Russell CDC. Shortly after, we visited KOIN's Everyday Northwest to promote "Memory and Place in Black Portland," a Photo Exhibit and Book Release hosted by Imagine Black (fka Portland African American Leadership Forum) and led by Walidah Imarisha.
