Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. announced February’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools. Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books – one per selected grade range. “This month’s book selections highlight important stories of our nation’s history,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “I encourage families to take time to read these stories about Americans that made a difference.” The Commissioner’s recommendations for February 2025 are: ? Her vision for America’s National Library, connecting all Americans to the Library of Congress, has redefined and modernized the library’s mission: to engage, inspire, and inform Congress and the American people with a universal and enduring source of knowledge and creativity. Carla Hayden was sworn in as the 14th Librarian of Congress on September 14, 2016. Dr. Hayden, the first woman and African American to lead the National Library, was nominated by President Barack Obama on February 24, 2016. Her nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate later that year on July 13.
