Our first COP side event discussing the "Capacity We Need for the Ocean We Want" was a great success, thank you to the UN Ocean Decade for documenting this milestone!

?????? Introducing ECOP India! We are proud to share the coordination team for ECOP India and officially launch this new National Node in Asia. They will amplify the voices of one of the largest ECOP audiences in the world. The UN Ocean Decade story of Indian ECOPs began in 2021, with the launch of a video interviewing research scholars across India during World Ocean Day [watch here: https://lnkd.in/gvixSSXP]. ECOP India's primary vision is to empower a network of Indian ECOPs by ensuring meaningful representation and participation in conferences, symposiums, workshops, training programs, and mentoring platforms. The initiative aims to enhance ECOP engagement and leadership by organizing capacity strengthening and outreach activities (including those focused on Ocean Literacy) and fostering partnerships with diverse ocean stakeholders across India. ECOP India envisions ECOPs as ocean leaders across all sectors of society, striving for a sustainable ocean by actively contributing to the UN Ocean Decade goals and beyond. Their first meeting took place today and we look forward to hearing more updates from coordinators Sunanda Narayanan and Trishneeta Bhattacharya. Join our event tomorrow, on Wednesday 20, at 9am, at the Ocean Pavilion for a discussion on Capacity Development for the Ocean We Want. This event will discuss capacity development needs and challenges encountered by Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) in various regions based on the results of our work and the experience of our partners. We shall share the lessons learnt and discuss recommendations for further cooperative actions. Our panel moderated by our Global Coordinator Evgeniia Kostianaia will discuss several components of capacity development that we need as a whole in order to achieve the goals of the UN Ocean Decade. We shall show that beyond trainings for youth and ECOPs, capacity development has many other aspects for all generations and sectors.
