We were honored to attend the San Diego Law Library Foundation Annual Bernard E. Witkin Award Ceremony last Thursday evening. The Witkin award honors excellence in our legal community. Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association received an award for "Excellence in Public Service." Congratulations also to: San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, Judge Michael Smyth, and Deborah Dixon. It was a fantastic event, surrounded by respected legal professionals and judges.

Gilliam Bar Association (EBGBA) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the political, economic, educational, social, legislative, and legal interests of the Black community in San Diego County. We are committed to defending the legal and human rights of all people, promoting the administration of justice, eradicating the root causes of racism, promoting the professional and personal interests of its individual members, and preserving high standards of integrity, honor, and courtesy in the legal profession. We also have a 501(c)(3) charitable Foundation (https://earlbgilliambar.org/), which exists primarily to provide support for diversifying the legal community, which currently includes scholarships for law students and support for law students and African American legal professionals in growing as attorneys, obtaining and maintaining employment, developing private practice as sole practitioners or partners within law firms, advancing in public sector employment, and related efforts.

? Celebrating 25 Years of Justice! ? Last month San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. hosted its 25th annual Justice For All Celebration — and what an incredible event it was! ?? Over 200 attendees, including members of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association came together to build community and celebrate the amazing awardees. ?? This past year, SDVLP made an enormous impact, helping thousands individuals in need through its pro bono services.
