关于我们
EAAMO is a multi-institutional initiative bringing together researchers and practitioners from over 130 institutions in 50 countries. We take an interdisciplinary approach—using insights from computer science, social sciences, and humanistic studies as well as collaborations and partnerships with domain experts and impacted communities—to help improve access to opportunity. We focus on a range of domains from inequality to climate and energy to data economies and civic participation. EAAMO's mission is to advance equitable algorithms that center the interests, views, research, and practice of marginalized communities into the core of algorithmic and computational research.

How we can ensure that research doesn’t just stay on paper but drives real-world change? One of the most rewarding aspects of EAAMO 2024 was how it truly embodied our mission - bridging the gap between theoretical research and real-world implementation. Hosting the conference in San Luis Potosí was an opportunity to co-create with local partners and ensure that our work had a lasting impact on the communities we aim to support. Some key ways we did this: ? Partnering with local government and public institutions to enrich conference programming ? Launching our first-ever Social Hackathon, tackling the critical challenge of breast cancer in Mexico ? Prioritizing inclusivity, ensuring local and Indigenous communities could participate and share their voices ? Encouraging mindful cultural immersion, challenging perceptions beyond the typical academic conference experience I reflect on this experience in a recent piece for ReVista: The Harvard Latin American Review, exploring how EAAMO 2024 set a new standard for community-driven academic conferences. My hope is that this serves as a blueprint for future conferences - one where those with lived experience are active contributors, not just attendees. Who gets funded in conservation - and who gets left out? This World Wildlife Day, let’s talk about biodiversity data, power, and money. ?? Biodiversity data isn’t neutral. It reflects historical legacies, economic disparities, and political priorities. This means conservation funding often flows where data is strongest - not necessarily where biodiversity protection is most urgent. Watch our new video to see how biodiversity data biases shape who gets funded in conservation. Then, read our latest article on how to fix it ?? https://lnkd.in/grniAcCv #WWD2025 #WorldWildlifeDay #Conservation #EnvironmentalJustice

What if tech and academia truly centered community voices in designing algorithms? Sera Linardi and EAAMO (formerly MD4SG) are leading the way—breaking silos, integrating lived experiences, and driving global collaboration to make algorithmic systems equitable and impactful. With over 2,000 researchers across 50 countries, EAAMO bridges the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world needs. RDS@Pitt is proud to have supported EAAMO in 2024 (we can't wait to share more on this!) Our Access and Equity Community of Practice (https://lnkd.in/e9Nn9MMP) is helping rethink how we design systems—for everyone. #EquityInTech #InclusiveInnovation #EAAMO #SocialImpact Pitt Research https://lnkd.in/ex42jVwY

Happy New Year everyone! I am always thankful for this week between Christmas and New Year where we take a rare collective pause. 2024 was an incredible year - I became the inaugural executive director of one of my most respected organizations, EAAMO (formerly MD4SG). I’ve always dreamed of the day where my personal goals and my career holistically support each other, and being ED of EAAMO is the pinnacle of that dream: I get to spend my days working alongside my favorite people from all over the world build an organization that help computational and quantitative researchers connect with the lived perspective of marginalized populations. We worked on a new vision, mission, and guiding principles for EAAMO, connected the many parts of this 3000-person, 150-institution volunteer organization into an integrated whole, and started many research-to-practice bridges. Oh, and we also put together our inaugural Board of Directors, and had our first international ACM Conference at San Luis Potosi, Mexico! This would not have been possible without Cornell Tech's PiTech program - ? working with Deborah Estrin, Ma?gorzata (Ma?gosia) Rejniak, Kate Nicholson, Nikhil Garg, Emma Pierson, Anthony Townsend and so many amazing PhD students. The work of applying our academic skills? towards building a real-world organization that delivers sustainable social impact can be daunting, but I am especially thankful for the opportunity for learning from past / current PiTech Faculty / Fellows? Nicola Dell (Clinic to End Tech Abuse), and Maria Jo?o Sousa and Priya Donti (Climatechange.ai) . Special thanks to so, so many of you from the EAAMO leadership family for your tireless effort, creativity, vision and integrity (Rediet Abebe, Irene Lo, Bryan Wilder, illenin kondo, Lily Xu, Ana-Andreea Stoica, George Obaido, Ph.D., Francisco Marmolejo-Cossío, Sandro Radovanovi?, Charles Cui, Rhea Tibrewala, Celestine Mendler-Dünner, Nick Arnosti, Chinasa T. Okolo, Ph.D., Eric Sodomka, Yaren Bilge Kaya, Augustin Chaintreau, Felipe Verastegui, Kenya Andrews, Michelle González Amador, PhD, Juba Ziani, Faidra Monachou, and many others).? And to my extremely supportive Pitt family that kept in touch all year long - where I look forward to continuing our mission of service through quantitative methods - Dean Carissa Schively Slotterback, faculty and staff and students University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) (especially the CAASI - Center for Analytical Approaches to Social Innovation crew Daniel Little, Asefash Eyasu, Emmaline Rial, Lexa Bennett, Aakash Gautam and our community partner Josh Chamberlain),? and the Responsible Data Science@Pitt at the Provost office.
